6 Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials(D) in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.(E) 7 They(F) gave toward the work on the temple of God five thousand talents[c] and ten thousand darics[d] of gold, ten thousand talents[e] of silver, eighteen thousand talents[f] of bronze and a hundred thousand talents[g] of iron. 8 Anyone who had precious stones(G) gave them to the treasury of the temple of the Lord in the custody of Jehiel the Gershonite.(H) 9 The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly(I) to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly.

This half shekel is an offering to the Lord. 14 All who cross over, those twenty years old or more,(E) are to give an offering to the Lord. 15 The rich are not to give more than a half shekel and the poor are not to give less(F) when you make the offering to the Lord to atone for your lives. 16 Receive the atonement(G) money from the Israelites and use it for the service of the tent of meeting.(H) It will be a memorial(I) for the Israelites before the Lord, making atonement for your lives.”
