22 A thrigolion Jerwsalem a urddasant Ahaseia ei fab ieuangaf ef yn frenin yn ei le ef: canys y fyddin a ddaethai gyda’r Arabiaid i’r gwersyll, a laddasai y rhai hynaf oll. Felly Ahaseia mab Jehoram brenin Jwda a deyrnasodd. Mab dwy flwydd a deugain oedd Ahaseia pan ddechreuodd efe deyrnasu; ac un flwyddyn y teyrnasodd efe yn Jerwsalem: ac enw ei fam ef oedd Athaleia merch Omri. Yntau hefyd a rodiodd yn ffyrdd tŷ Ahab: canys ei fam oedd ei gyngor ef i wneuthur drwg. Ac efe a wnaeth yr hyn oedd ddrwg yng ngolwg yr Arglwydd, fel tŷ Ahab: canys hwynt-hwy oedd gynghoriaid iddo ef, ar ôl marwolaeth ei dad, i’w ddinistr ef.

Ac efe a rodiodd yn ôl eu cyngor hwynt, ac a aeth gyda Jehoram mab Ahab brenin Israel i ryfel, yn erbyn Hasael brenin Syria, yn Ramoth-Gilead: a’r Syriaid a drawsant Joram. Ac efe a ddychwelodd i ymiacháu i Jesreel, oherwydd yr archollion â’r rhai y trawsant ef yn Rama, pan ymladdodd efe â Hasael brenin Syria. Ac Asareia mab Jehoram brenin Jwda a aeth i waered i ymweled â Jehoram mab Ahab i Jesreel, canys claf oedd efe. A dinistr Ahaseia oedd oddi wrth Dduw, wrth ddyfod at Joram: canys pan ddaeth, efe a aeth gyda Jehoram yn erbyn Jehu mab Nimsi, yr hwn a eneiniasai yr Arglwydd i dorri ymaith dŷ Ahab. A phan farnodd Jehu yn erbyn tŷ Ahab, efe a gafodd dywysogion Jwda, a meibion brodyr Ahaseia, y rhai oedd yn gwasanaethu Ahaseia, ac efe a’u lladdodd hwynt. Ac efe a geisiodd Ahaseia; a hwy a’i daliasant ef, (canys yr oedd efe yn llechu yn Samaria;) a hwy a’i dygasant ef at Jehu: lladdasant ef hefyd, a chladdasant ef; canys dywedasant, Mab Jehosaffat yw efe, yr hwn a geisiodd yr Arglwydd â’i holl galon. Felly nid oedd gan dŷ Ahaseia nerth i lynu yn y deyrnas.

10 Ond pan welodd Athaleia mam Ahaseia farw o’i mab, hi a gyfododd, ac a ddifethodd holl frenhinol had tŷ Jwda. 11 Ond Josabea merch y brenin a gymerth Joas mab Ahaseia, ac a’i lladrataodd ef o fysg meibion y brenin y rhai a laddwyd, ac a’i rhoddodd ef a’i famaeth yn ystafell y gwelyau. Felly Josabea merch y brenin Jehoram, gwraig Jehoiada yr offeiriad, (canys chwaer Ahaseia ydoedd hi,) a’i cuddiodd ef rhag Athaleia, fel na laddodd hi ef. 12 Ac efe a fu yng nghudd gyda hwynt yn nhŷ Dduw chwe blynedd: ac Athaleia oedd yn teyrnasu ar y wlad.

Ahaziah King of Judah(A)(B)

22 The people(C) of Jerusalem(D) made Ahaziah, Jehoram’s youngest son, king in his place, since the raiders,(E) who came with the Arabs into the camp, had killed all the older sons. So Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah began to reign.

Ahaziah was twenty-two[a] years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem one year. His mother’s name was Athaliah, a granddaughter of Omri.

He too followed(F) the ways of the house of Ahab,(G) for his mother encouraged him to act wickedly. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done, for after his father’s death they became his advisers, to his undoing. He also followed their counsel when he went with Joram[b] son of Ahab king of Israel to wage war against Hazael king of Aram at Ramoth Gilead.(H) The Arameans wounded Joram; so he returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds they had inflicted on him at Ramoth[c] in his battle with Hazael(I) king of Aram.

Then Ahaziah[d] son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to Jezreel to see Joram son of Ahab because he had been wounded.

Through Ahaziah’s(J) visit to Joram, God brought about Ahaziah’s downfall. When Ahaziah arrived, he went out with Joram to meet Jehu son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to destroy the house of Ahab. While Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab,(K) he found the officials of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah’s relatives, who had been attending Ahaziah, and he killed them. He then went in search of Ahaziah, and his men captured him while he was hiding(L) in Samaria. He was brought to Jehu and put to death. They buried him, for they said, “He was a son of Jehoshaphat, who sought(M) the Lord with all his heart.” So there was no one in the house of Ahaziah powerful enough to retain the kingdom.

Athaliah and Joash(N)

10 When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she proceeded to destroy the whole royal family of the house of Judah. 11 But Jehosheba,[e] the daughter of King Jehoram, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the royal princes who were about to be murdered and put him and his nurse in a bedroom. Because Jehosheba,[f] the daughter of King Jehoram and wife of the priest Jehoiada, was Ahaziah’s sister, she hid the child from Athaliah so she could not kill him. 12 He remained hidden with them at the temple of God for six years while Athaliah ruled the land.
