2 Corinthians 1:8-11
New King James Version
Delivered from Suffering
8 For we do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, of (A)our [a]trouble which came to us in Asia: that we were burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life. 9 Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should (B)not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead, 10 (C)who delivered us from so great a death, and [b]does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us, 11 you also (D)helping together in prayer for us, that thanks may be given by many persons on [c]our behalf (E)for the gift granted to us through many.

New International Version
8 We do not want you to be uninformed,(A) brothers and sisters,[a] about the troubles we experienced(B) in the province of Asia.(C) We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. 9 Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God,(D) who raises the dead.(E) 10 He has delivered us from such a deadly peril,(F) and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope(G) that he will continue to deliver us, 11 as you help us by your prayers.(H) Then many will give thanks(I) on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.
Footnotes
- 2 Corinthians 1:8 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family; also in 8:1; 13:11.

Triumph in Christ
12 Furthermore, (A)when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and (B)a [a]door was opened to me by the Lord, 13 (C)I had no rest in my spirit, because I did not find Titus my brother; but taking my leave of them, I departed for Macedonia.
14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us [b]diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.

Ministers of the New Covenant
12 Now when I went to Troas(A) to preach the gospel of Christ(B) and found that the Lord had opened a door(C) for me, 13 I still had no peace of mind,(D) because I did not find my brother Titus(E) there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia.(F)
14 But thanks be to God,(G) who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma(H) of the knowledge(I) of him everywhere.
