But, brethren, of times and moments ye need not that I write to you.

For ye yourselves know diligently, that the day of the Lord shall come, as a thief in the night.

For when they shall say peace is, and secureness, then sudden death shall come on them[a], as sorrow to a woman that is with child, and they shall not escape.

But, brethren, ye be not in darknesses, that that day as a thief catch you.

For all ye be the sons of light, and sons of [the] day; we be not of night, neither of darknesses.

Therefore sleep we not as others; but wake we, and be we sober.

For they that sleep, sleep in the night, and they that be drunken, be drunken in the night.

But we that be of the day, be sober, clothed in the habergeon of faith and of charity, and in the helmet of hope of health [clothed in the habergeon of faith and charity, and in the helmet, hope of health].

For God putted not us [put not us] into wrath, but into the purchasing of health by our Lord Jesus Christ,

10 that was dead for us; that whether we wake, whether we sleep, we live together with him.

11 For which thing comfort ye together, and edify ye each other, as [and] ye do.

  1. 1 Thessalonians 5:3 Soothly when they shall say peace and secureness, then suddenly perishing, or death, shall come to them

He speaks of the day of doom and coming of the Lord. He exhorts them to watch, and to have regard for those who preach God’s word among them.

Of the times and seasons, brethren, you have no need that I write to you. For you yourselves know well that the day of the Lord will come even as a thief in the night. When they say, Peace, and no danger – then comes on them sudden destruction, like the travailing of a woman with child, and they shall not escape.

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, such that that day should come on you as a thief. You are all the children of light, and the children of the day. We are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep in the night, and those who are drunk, are drunk in the night. But let us who are of the day be sober, armed with the breastplate of faith and love, and with the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by the means of our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us so that whether we wake or sleep, we will live together with him. 11 Therefore comfort yourselves together, and strengthen one another, even as you do.

1 Condemning the curious searching for the seasons of Christ’s coming, 6 he warneth them to be ready daily to receive him: 11 And so giveth them sundry good lessons.

But [a]of the times and [b]seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

For ye yourselves know perfectly, that the day of the Lord shall come, even as a thief in the night.

For when they shall say, Peace and safety, then shall come upon them sudden destruction, as the travail upon a woman with child, and they shall not escape.

[c]But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day shall come on you, as it were a thief.

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, neither of darkness.

Therefore let us not sleep as do others, but let us watch and be sober.

For they that sleep, sleep in the night, and they that be drunken, are drunken in the night.

[d]But let us which are of the day, be sober, (A)putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the hope of salvation for an helmet.

[e]For God hath not appointed us unto wrath, but to obtain salvation by the means of our Lord Jesus Christ.

10 [f]Which died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

11 [g]Wherefore exhort one another, and edify one another, even as ye do.

But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
