¹⁷ Shem’s sons were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.

Aram’s sons were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.

¹⁸ Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, who was the father of Eber.

¹⁹ Eber had two sons. One son was named Peleg,^[a] because the people on the earth were divided into different languages during his life. Peleg’s brother was named Joktan.

²⁰ Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, ²¹ Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, ²² Obal, Abimael, Sheba, ²³ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were Joktan’s sons. ²⁴ The family line included Shem, Arphaxad, Shelah, ²⁵ Eber, Peleg, Reu, ²⁶ Serug, Nahor, Terah, ²⁷ and Abram, who was called Abraham.
