Men and Women in the Church

I desire therefore that the men pray (A)everywhere, (B)lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting; in like manner also, that the (C)women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and [a]moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, 10 (D)but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.

I wish, therefore, that men pray in every place, lifting up kind hands, apart from anger and reasoning;

in like manner also the women, in becoming apparel, with modesty and sobriety to adorn themselves, not in braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or garments of great price,

10 but -- which becometh women professing godly piety -- through good works.

Instructions for Believers

Therefore (A)I want the men (B)in every place to pray, (C)lifting up (D)holy hands, without anger and dispute. Likewise, I want (E)women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, [a]modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive apparel, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness.
