6 TODOS los que están debajo del yugo de servidumbre, tengan á sus señores por dignos de toda honra, porque no sea blasfemado el nombre del Señor y la doctrina.
2 Y los que tienen amos fieles, no los tengan en menos, por ser hermanos; antes sírvanles mejor, por cuanto son fieles y amados, y partícipes del beneficio. Esto enseña y exhorta.
3 Si alguno enseña otra cosa, y no asiente á sanas palabras de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, y á la doctrina que es conforme á la piedad;
4 Es hinchado, nada sabe, y enloquece acerca de cuestiones y contiendas de palabras, de las cuales nacen envidias, pleitos, maledicencias, malas sospechas,
5 Porfías de hombres corruptos de entendimiento y privados de la verdad, que tienen la piedad por granjería: apártate de los tales.
6 Empero grande granjería es la piedad con contentamiento.
7 Porque nada hemos traído á este mundo, y sin duda nada podremos sacar.
8 Así que, teniendo sustento y con qué cubrirnos, seamos contentos con esto.
9 Porque los que quieren enriquecerse, caen en tentación y lazo, y en muchas codicias locas y dañosas, que hunden á los hombres en perdición y muerte.
10 Porque el amor del dinero es la raíz de todos los males: el cual codiciando algunos, se descaminaron de la fe, y fueron traspasados de muchos dolores.
11 Mas tú, oh hombre de Dios, huye de estas cosas, y sigue la justicia, la piedad, la fe, la caridad, la paciencia, la mansedumbre.
12 Pelea la buena batalla de la fe, echa mano de la vida eterna, á la cual asimismo eres llamado, habiendo hecho buena profesión delante de muchos testigos.
13 Te mando delante de Dios, que da vida á todas las cosas, y de Jesucristo, que testificó la buena profesión delante de Poncio Pilato,
14 Que guardes el mandamiento sin mácula ni reprensión, hasta la aparición de nuestro Señor Jesucristo:
15 La cual á su tiempo mostrará el Bienaventurado y solo Poderoso, Rey de reyes, y Señor de señores;
16 Quien sólo tiene inmortalidad, que habita en luz inaccesible; á quien ninguno de los hombres ha visto ni puede ver: al cual sea la honra y el imperio sempiterno. Amén.
17 A los ricos de este siglo manda que no sean altivos, ni pongan la esperanza en la incertidumbre de las riquezas, sino en el Dios vivo, que nos da todas las cosas en abundancia de que gocemos:
18 Que hagan bien, que sean ricos en buenas obras, dadivosos, que con facilidad comuniquen;
19 Atesorando para sí buen fundamento para lo por venir, que echen mano á la vida eterna.
20 Oh Timoteo, guarda lo que se te ha encomendado, evitando las profanas pláticas de vanas cosas, y los argumentos de la falsamente llamada ciencia:
21 La cual profesando algunos, fueron descaminados acerca de la fe. La gracia sea contigo. Amén. espístola á Timoteo fué escrita de Laodicea, que es metrópoli de la Frigia Pacatiana.

6 All who are under the yoke of slavery should consider their masters worthy of full respect,(A) so that God’s name and our teaching may not be slandered.(B) 2 Those who have believing masters should not show them disrespect just because they are fellow believers.(C) Instead, they should serve them even better because their masters are dear to them as fellow believers and are devoted to the welfare[a] of their slaves.
False Teachers and the Love of Money
These are the things you are to teach and insist on.(D) 3 If anyone teaches otherwise(E) and does not agree to the sound instruction(F) of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4 they are conceited(G) and understand nothing. They have an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words(H) that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5 and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth(I) and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.
6 But godliness with contentment(J) is great gain.(K) 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.(L) 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.(M) 9 Those who want to get rich(N) fall into temptation and a trap(O) and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money(P) is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith(Q) and pierced themselves with many griefs.(R)
Final Charge to Timothy
11 But you, man of God,(S) flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness,(T) faith, love,(U) endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight(V) of the faith. Take hold of(W) the eternal life(X) to which you were called when you made your good confession(Y) in the presence of many witnesses. 13 In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate(Z) made the good confession,(AA) I charge you(AB) 14 to keep this command without spot or blame(AC) until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,(AD) 15 which God will bring about in his own time(AE)—God, the blessed(AF) and only Ruler,(AG) the King of kings and Lord of lords,(AH) 16 who alone is immortal(AI) and who lives in unapproachable light,(AJ) whom no one has seen or can see.(AK) To him be honor and might forever. Amen.(AL)
17 Command those who are rich(AM) in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth,(AN) which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God,(AO) who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.(AP) 18 Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds,(AQ) and to be generous and willing to share.(AR) 19 In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves(AS) as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of(AT) the life that is truly life.
20 Timothy, guard what has been entrusted(AU) to your care. Turn away from godless chatter(AV) and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge, 21 which some have professed and in so doing have departed from the faith.(AW)

The duty of servants toward their masters. Against such as are not satisfied with the word of God. Against covetousness. A good lesson for the rich.
6 Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their masters worthy of all honour, so that the name of God and his precepts are not ill spoken of. 2 See to it that those who have believing masters do not honour them less because they are brethren, but so much more rather serve them, because they are believing, and beloved, and will benefit from the good service.
These things teach and exhort. 3 If anyone teaches otherwise, and is not content with the wholesome words of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the instruction of godliness, 4 he is puffed up and knows nothing, but wastes his brains about questions and strife of words, whereof come envy, strife, railing, evil surmisings, 5 and the vain disputations of men with corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who think that wealth is godliness. Separate yourself from such people.
6 But godliness is great wealth, if a man is content with what he has. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and it is a plain case that we can carry nothing out. 8 When we have food and clothing, let us therewith be content. 9 Those who want to be rich fall into temptation and snares, and into many foolish and harmful desires, which drown men in perdition and destruction. 10 For covetousness is the root of all evil, which, when some followed after, they erred from the faith, and tangled themselves with many sorrows. 11 But you who are the man of God, flee such things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, love, patience, and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hold on eternal life, to which you are called and have pledged yourself with a good profession before many witnesses.
13 I give you charge in the sight of God, who gives life to all things, and before Jesus Christ, who bore faithful witness under Pontius Pilate, 14 to keep the commandment, and be without spot and unrebukeable until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ – 15 which appearing (when the time is come) he will show, who is blessed and sole in dominion, King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, and dwells in light to which no man can attain, whom no man ever saw neither can see: to whom be honour and rule everlasting. Amen.
17 Charge those who are rich in this world not to be high-minded, and not to trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us abundantly all things, to enjoy them; 18 and to do good, and to be rich in good works, and ready to give and distribute, 19 laying up in store for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, so that they may obtain eternal life.
20 O Timothy, preserve that which has been given you to keep, and avoid unspiritual vanities of voices, and oppositions of knowledge falsely so-called, 21 which knowledge has led some who profess it to err as concerning the faith.

Honor Masters

Teach and exhort these things.
Error and Greed
3 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to (B)wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, (C)and to the [a]doctrine which accords with godliness, 4 he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, 5 [b]useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. [c]From (D)such withdraw yourself.
6 Now godliness with (E)contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into this world, [d]and it is (F)certain we can carry nothing out. 8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be (G)content. 9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
The Good Confession
11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus (H)who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, 15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only [e]Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in (I)unapproachable light, (J)whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.
Instructions to the Rich
17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain (K)riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things (L)to enjoy. 18 Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, 19 (M)storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
Guard the Faith
20 O Timothy! (N)Guard what was committed to your trust, (O)avoiding the profane and [f]idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge— 21 by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith.
