⁹ Let a widow be enrolled if she is not less than sixty years of age, having been ^(A)the wife of one husband,^[a]

² Therefore ^(A)an overseer^[a] must be above reproach, ^(B)the husband of one wife,^{[b] (C)}sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, ^(D)hospitable, ^(E)able to teach,

¹¹ But refuse to enroll younger widows, for when ^(A)their passions draw them away from Christ, they desire to marry

³⁶ And there was ^(A)a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, ³⁷ and then as a widow until she was eighty-four.^[a] She did not depart from the temple, ^(B)worshiping with ^(C)fasting and prayer night and day.

¹⁴ So I would have ^(A)younger widows marry, bear children, ^(B)manage their households, and ^(C)give the adversary no occasion for slander.

³ Honor widows ^(A)who are truly widows. ⁴ But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn ^(B)to show godliness to their own household and to make some return to their parents, for ^(C)this is pleasing in the sight of God.

¹² Let deacons each be ^(A)the husband of one wife, ^(B)managing their children and their own households well.

^39 (A)A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only ^(B)in the Lord. ⁴⁰ Yet ^(C)in my judgment she is happier if she remains as she is. And I think ^(D)that I too have the Spirit of God.

¹⁰ To the married ^(A)I give this charge (not I, but the Lord): ^(B)the wife should not separate from her husband ¹¹ (but if she does, ^(C)she should remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband), and ^(D)the husband should not divorce his wife.
