⁴ But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn ^(A)to show godliness to their own household and to make some return to their parents, for ^(B)this is pleasing in the sight of God.

Children and Parents

6 ^(A)Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ^2 (B)“Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), ³ “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

⁴ For God commanded, ^(A)‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ^(B)‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’ ⁵ But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or his mother, “What you would have gained from me is given to God,”^{[a] 6} he need not honor his father.’ So for the sake of your tradition you have ^(C)made void the word^[b] of God.

²⁶ When Jesus saw his mother and ^(A)the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, ^(B)“Woman, behold, your son!” ²⁷ Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her to ^(C)his own home.

¹² And Joseph ^(A)provided his father, his brothers, and all his father's household with food, according to the number of their dependents.

³ This is good, and ^(A)it is pleasing in the sight of ^(B)God our Savior,

¹¹ But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or his mother, “Whatever you would have gained from me is Corban”’ (that is, given to God)^[a]— ¹² then you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or mother, ¹³ thus ^(A)making void the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And many such things you do.”

^10 (A)You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near me, you and your children and your children's children, and your flocks, your herds, and all that you have. ^11 (B)There I will provide for you, for there are yet five years of famine to come, so that you and your household, and all that you have, do not come to poverty.’

⁵¹ And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was submissive to them. And ^(A)his mother treasured up all these things in her heart.
