¹⁸ For the Scripture says, ^(A)“You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,” and, ^(B)“The laborer deserves his wages.”

^4 (A)“You shall not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the grain.

¹⁴ In the same way, the Lord commanded that ^(A)those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel.

^7 (A)Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? ^(B)Who plants a vineyard without eating any of its fruit? Or who tends a flock without getting some of the milk?

⁸ Do I say these things on human authority? Does not the Law say the same? ⁹ For it is written in the Law of Moses, ^(C)“You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain.” Is it for oxen that God is concerned? ¹⁰ Does he not certainly speak for our sake? It was written ^(D)for our sake, because ^(E)the plowman should plow in hope and the thresher thresh in hope of sharing in the crop.

⁷ And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for ^(A)the laborer deserves his wages. Do not go from house to house.

¹⁰ no bag for your journey, or two tunics^[a] or sandals or a staff, for ^(A)the laborer deserves his food.

¹⁴ “You shall not ^(A)oppress a hired worker who is poor and needy, whether he is one of your brothers or one of the sojourners who are in your land within your towns. ^15 (B)You shall give him his wages on the same day, before the sun sets (for he is poor and counts on it), ^(C)lest he cry against you to the Lord, and you be guilty of sin.

^13 (A)“You shall not oppress your neighbor or rob him. ^(B)The wages of a hired worker shall not remain with you all night until the morning.

⁵ Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit ^(A)that he has made to dwell in us”?

⁸ And the Scripture, foreseeing that ^(A)God would justify^[a] the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, ^(B)“In you shall all the nations be blessed.”
