Widows, Elders and Slaves

5 Do not rebuke an older man^(A) harshly,^(B) but exhort him as if he were your father. Treat younger men^(C) as brothers,

³² “‘Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect^(A) for the elderly^(B) and revere your God.^(C) I am the Lord.^(D)

⁵ In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves^(A) to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility^(B) toward one another, because,

⁶ Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.^(D)

Doing Good to All

6 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit^(A) should restore^(B) that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.

To the Elders and the Flock

5 To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder^(A) and a witness^(B) of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed:^(C)

⁶ Similarly, encourage the young men^(A) to be self-controlled.^(B)

² Teach the older men^(A) to be temperate,^(B) worthy of respect, self-controlled,^(C) and sound in faith,^(D) in love and in endurance.

¹⁹ Do not entertain an accusation against an elder^(A) unless it is brought by two or three witnesses.^{(B) 20} But those elders who are sinning you are to reprove^(C) before everyone, so that the others may take warning.^(D)

⁸ “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers.
