Dinala ang Kaban sa Templo ni Dagon
5 Mula sa Ebenezer, ang Kaban ng Diyos ay dinala ng mga Filisteo sa Asdod. 2 Ipinasok nila ito sa templo ng kanilang diyos na si Dagon at inilagay sa tabi nito. 3 Kinaumagahan, nakita ng mga taga-Asdod na nakasubsob ang rebulto ni Dagon sa harap ng Kaban ng Tipan ni Yahweh. Kaya, binuhat nila ito at ibinalik sa dating lugar. 4 Nang magbalik sila kinabukasan, nakita nilang nakasubsob na naman si Dagon sa harap ng Kaban ng Tipan. Ang ulo at mga kamay nito ay putul-putol at nagkalat sa may pintuan; walang natirang buo kundi ang katawan. (5 Ito ang dahilan kung bakit hanggang ngayon, ang mga pari ni Dagon at ang lahat ng sumasamba sa Asdod ay hindi tumutuntong kahit sa may pintuan ng templo nito.)
Pinarusahan ang mga Filisteo
6 Pinarusahan ni Yahweh ang mga mamamayan ng Asdod at kanilang karatig-bayan. Sila'y natadtad ng bukol bilang parusa ni Yahweh. 7 Dahil dito'y sinabi nila, “Kailangang alisin natin dito ang Kaban ng Diyos ng mga Israelita sapagkat pinaparusahan niya tayo at ang diyos nating si Dagon.” 8 Kaya ipinatawag nila ang mga pinuno ng mga Filisteo at pinag-usapan nila kung ano ang dapat gawin sa Kaban ng Diyos ng Israel.
Nagkaisa silang dalhin iyon sa Lunsod ng Gat, at ganoon nga ang kanilang ginawa. 9 Ngunit ang lunsod na iyon ay pinarusahan din ni Yahweh. Nagulo ang buong bayan sapagkat natadtad rin ng bukol ang mga tagaroon, bata man o matanda. 10 Dahil dito, dinala nila sa Ekron ang Kaban, ngunit tumutol ang mga tagaroon. Sinabi nila, “Dinala nila rito ang Kabang ito para tayo naman ang ipapatay sa Diyos ng Israel.” 11 Kaya, nakipagpulong sila sa mga Filisteo at kanilang sinabi, “Alisin ninyo rito ang Kaban ng Diyos ng Israel. Ibalik ninyo ito sa pinanggalingan bago tayo mamatay lahat.” Gulung-gulo ang lahat dahil sa takot sa parusa ng Diyos. 12 Ang mga natirang buháy ay natadtad ng bukol. Abot hanggang langit ang paghingi nila ng saklolo.

5 And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.
2 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
3 And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.
4 And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.
5 Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.
6 But the hand of the Lord was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods, even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.
7 And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.
8 They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel about thither.
9 And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the Lord was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.
10 Therefore they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.
11 So they sent and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to his own place, that it slay us not, and our people: for there was a deadly destruction throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.
12 And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

The Ark in Ashdod and Ekron
5 After the Philistines had captured the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer(A) to Ashdod.(B) 2 Then they carried the ark into Dagon’s temple and set it beside Dagon.(C) 3 When the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, there was Dagon, fallen(D) on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! They took Dagon and put him back in his place. 4 But the following morning when they rose, there was Dagon, fallen on his face on the ground before the ark of the Lord! His head and hands had been broken(E) off and were lying on the threshold; only his body remained. 5 That is why to this day neither the priests of Dagon nor any others who enter Dagon’s temple at Ashdod step on the threshold.(F)
6 The Lord’s hand(G) was heavy on the people of Ashdod and its vicinity; he brought devastation(H) on them and afflicted them with tumors.[a](I) 7 When the people of Ashdod saw what was happening, they said, “The ark of the god of Israel must not stay here with us, because his hand is heavy on us and on Dagon our god.” 8 So they called together all the rulers(J) of the Philistines and asked them, “What shall we do with the ark of the god of Israel?”
They answered, “Have the ark of the god of Israel moved to Gath.(K)” So they moved the ark of the God of Israel.
9 But after they had moved it, the Lord’s hand was against that city, throwing it into a great panic.(L) He afflicted the people of the city, both young and old, with an outbreak of tumors.[b] 10 So they sent the ark of God to Ekron.(M)
As the ark of God was entering Ekron, the people of Ekron cried out, “They have brought the ark of the god of Israel around to us to kill us and our people.” 11 So they called together all the rulers(N) of the Philistines and said, “Send the ark of the god of Israel away; let it go back to its own place, or it[c] will kill us and our people.” For death had filled the city with panic; God’s hand was very heavy on it. 12 Those who did not die(O) were afflicted with tumors, and the outcry of the city went up to heaven.
