3 Y EL joven Samuel ministraba á Jehová delante de Eli: y la palabra de Jehová era de estima en aquellos días; no había visión manifiesta.
2 Y aconteció un día, que estando Eli acostado en su aposento, cuando sus ojos comenzaban á oscurecerse, que no podía ver,
3 Samuel estaba durmiendo en el templo de Jehová, donde el arca de Dios estaba: y antes que la lámpara de Dios fuese apagada,
4 Jehová llamó á Samuel; y él respondió: Heme aquí.
5 Y corriendo luego á Eli, dijo: Heme aquí; ¿para qué me llamaste? Y Eli le dijo: Yo no he llamado; vuélvete á acostar. Y él se volvió, y acostóse.
6 Y Jehová volvió á llamar otra vez á Samuel. Y levantándose Samuel vino á Eli, y dijo: Heme aquí; ¿para qué me has llamado? Y él dijo: Hijo mío, yo no he llamado; vuelve, y acuéstate.
7 Y Samuel no había conocido aún á Jehová, ni la palabra de Jehová le había sido revelada.
8 Jehová pues llamó la tercera vez á Samuel. Y él levantándose vino á Eli, y dijo: Heme aquí; ¿para qué me has llamado? Entonces entendió Eli que Jehová llamaba al joven.
9 Y dijo Eli á Samuel: Ve, y acuéstate: y si te llamare, dirás: Habla, Jehová, que tu siervo oye. Así se fué Samuel, y acostóse en su lugar.
10 Y vino Jehová, y paróse, y llamó como las otras veces: Samuel, Samuel! Entonces Samuel dijo: Habla, que tu siervo oye.
11 Y Jehová dijo á Samuel: He aquí haré yo una cosa en Israel, que á quien la oyere, le retiñirán ambos oídos.
12 Aquel día yo despertaré contra Eli todas las cosas que he dicho sobre su casa. En comenzando, acabaré también.
13 Y mostraréle que yo juzgaré su casa para siempre, por la iniquidad que él sabe; porque sus hijos se han envilecido, y él no los ha estorbado.
14 Y por tanto yo he jurado á la casa de Eli, que la iniquidad de la casa de Eli no será expiada jamás, ni con sacrificios ni con presentes.
15 Y Samuel estuvo acostado hasta la mañana, y abrió las puertas de la casa de Jehová. Y Samuel temía descubrir la visión á Eli.
16 Llamando pues Eli á Samuel, díjole: Hijo mío, Samuel. Y él respondió: Heme aquí.
17 Y dijo: ¿Qué es la palabra que te habló Jehová?; ruégote que no me la encubras: así te haga Dios y así te añada, si me encubrieres palabra de todo lo que habló contigo.
18 Y Samuel se lo manifestó todo, sin encubrirle nada. Entonces él dijo: Jehová es; haga lo que bien le pareciere.
19 Y Samuel creció, y Jehová fué con él, y no dejó caer á tierra ninguna de sus palabras.
20 Y conoció todo Israel desde Dan hasta Beer-sebah, que Samuel era fiel profeta de Jehová.
21 Así tornó Jehová á aparecer en Silo: porque Jehová se manifestó á Samuel en Silo con palabra de Jehová.

El Señor llama a Samuel
3 Samuel, que todavía era joven, servía al Señor bajo el cuidado de Elí. En esos tiempos no era común oír palabra del Señor ni eran frecuentes las visiones.
2 Elí ya se estaba quedando ciego. Un día, mientras él descansaba en su habitación, 3 Samuel dormía en el santuario del Señor, donde se encontraba el arca de Dios. La lámpara de Dios todavía estaba encendida. 4 El Señor llamó a Samuel, y este respondió:
—Aquí estoy.
5 Entonces fue corriendo adonde estaba Elí y dijo:
—Aquí estoy; ¿para qué me llamó usted?
—Yo no te he llamado —respondió Elí—. Vuelve a acostarte.
Y Samuel volvió a su cama.
6 Pero una vez más el Señor lo llamó:
—¡Samuel!
Él se levantó, fue adonde estaba Elí y dijo:
—Aquí estoy; ¿para qué me llamó usted?
—Hijo mío —respondió Elí—, yo no te he llamado. Vuelve a acostarte.
7 Samuel todavía no conocía al Señor ni su palabra se le había revelado.
8 Por tercera vez llamó el Señor a Samuel. Él se levantó y fue adonde estaba Elí.
—Aquí estoy —dijo—, ¿para qué me llamó usted?
Entonces Elí se dio cuenta de que el Señor estaba llamando al muchacho.
9 —Ve y acuéstate —dijo Elí—. Si alguien vuelve a llamarte, dile: “Habla, Señor, que tu siervo escucha”.
Así que Samuel se fue y se acostó en su cama. 10 Entonces el Señor se acercó, se detuvo y lo llamó de nuevo:
—¡Samuel! ¡Samuel!
—Habla, que tu siervo escucha —respondió Samuel.
11 —Mira —dijo el Señor—, estoy por hacer en Israel algo que a todo el que lo oiga le quedará retumbando en los oídos. 12 Ese día llevaré a cabo todo lo que he anunciado, de principio a fin, en contra de Elí y su familia. 13 Ya le dije que por la maldad de sus hijos he condenado a su familia para siempre; él sabía que estaban blasfemando contra Dios[a] y, sin embargo, no los refrenó. 14 Por lo tanto, hago este juramento en contra de su familia: ¡Ningún sacrificio ni ofrenda podrá lograr jamás el perdón del pecado de la familia de Elí!
15 Samuel se acostó y a la mañana siguiente abrió las puertas de la casa del Señor, pero temía contarle a Elí la visión. 16 Así que Elí tuvo que llamarlo.
—¡Samuel, hijo mío!
—Aquí estoy —respondió Samuel.
17 —¿Qué fue lo que te dijo? —preguntó Elí—. Te pido que no me lo ocultes. ¡Que Dios te castigue sin piedad si me ocultas una sola palabra de todo lo que te ha dicho!
18 Samuel se lo refirió todo, sin ocultarle nada, y Elí dijo:
—Él es el Señor; que haga lo que mejor le parezca.
19 Mientras Samuel crecía, el Señor estuvo con él y cumplió todo lo que había dicho por medio de él.[b] 20 Y todo Israel, desde Dan hasta Berseba, se dio cuenta de que el Señor había confirmado a Samuel como su profeta. 21 Y el Señor volvió a manifestarse en Siló, porque allí se revelaba a Samuel y le comunicaba su palabra.

Samuel’s Call.[a] 1 Young Samuel ministered to the Lord under Eli. Now the word of the Lord was rare in those days, there were not many visions. 2 At that time Eli, whose eyesight had begun to grow so weak so that he could not see well anymore, was lying down in his place. 3 The lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down in the temple of the Lord where the Ark of God was kept.[b] 4 The Lord called out, “Samuel.” He answered, “Here I am.” 5 He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, you called me.” He said, “I did not call you, go back and lie down.” He went and lay down.
6 The Lord called again, “Samuel.” Samuel got up and went to Eli and said, “Here I am, you called me.” He said, “I did not call you, my son, lie down again.” 7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, and the word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.
8 The Lord called Samuel a third time. He got up and went to Samuel and said, “Here I am, you called me.” Then Eli realized that the Lord had called him. 9 So Eli told Samuel, “Go and lie down. If he calls you, say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.’ ” So he went and lay down in his place.
10 Then the Lord came and stood and called out as he had the other times, “Samuel, Samuel.” Samuel said, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” 11 The Lord said to Samuel, “Behold, I am going to do something in Israel that will cause the ears of everyone who hears it to ring. 12 On that day I will bring against Eli all of the things that I have proclaimed against his house, from beginning to end. 13 I have told him that I would judge his household forever because of the sin about which he knew, because his sons brought a curse upon themselves and he did not restrain them. 14 Therefore, I have sworn to the house of Eli that the guilt will never be atoned from Eli’s house by either sacrifice or offering.”
15 Samuel lay down until the morning, and then he opened the doors to the house of the Lord. However, he was afraid to reveal the vision to Eli, 16 but Eli called Samuel and said, “Samuel, my son,” and he answered, “Here I am.” 17 He said, “What is it that the Lord said to you? Please, do not hide it from me. May the Lord do it to you[c] and even more if you hide anything from me of all those things that he said to you.” 18 So Samuel told him everything, hiding nothing from him. He then said, “He is the Lord, let him do what seems best to him.”
19 Samuel the Prophet. Samuel grew up, and the Lord was with him and did not let any of his words fall to the ground. 20 All of Israel, from Dan to Beer-sheba,[d] knew that Samuel had been confirmed as a prophet of the Lord. 21 The Lord continued to appear in Shiloh, for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh through the word of the Lord.

3 And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.
2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
6 And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.
8 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.
9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10 And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
11 And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.
12 In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.
13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.
14 And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.
15 And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.
16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.
17 And he said, What is the thing that the Lord hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.
18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the Lord: let him do what seemeth him good.
19 And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.
20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the Lord.
21 And the Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord.
