Discurso de Samuel al pueblo
12 Dijo Samuel a todo Israel:
—He oído vuestra voz en todo cuanto me habéis dicho, y os he dado un rey. 2 Ahora, pues, ahí tenéis al rey que ha de guiaros. Yo soy ya viejo y estoy lleno de canas; pero mis hijos están con vosotros, y yo he andado delante de vosotros desde mi juventud hasta este día. 3 Aquí estoy; atestiguad contra mí delante de Jehová y delante de su ungido, si he tomado el buey de alguno, si he tomado el asno de alguno, si he calumniado a alguien, si he agraviado a alguno o si de alguien he aceptado soborno para cerrar los ojos; y os lo restituiré.
4 —Nunca nos has calumniado ni agraviado, ni has tomado nada de manos de ningún hombre —dijeron ellos.
5 Él les dijo:
—Jehová es testigo contra vosotros, y su ungido también es testigo en este día, que no habéis hallado cosa alguna en mis manos.
—Así es —respondieron ellos.
6 Entonces Samuel dijo al pueblo:
—Jehová, que designó a Moisés y a Aarón, y sacó a vuestros padres de la tierra de Egipto, es testigo. 7 Ahora, pues, aguardad, y discutiré con vosotros delante de Jehová acerca de todos los hechos de salvación que Jehová ha hecho con vosotros y con vuestros padres. 8 Cuando Jacob entró en Egipto y vuestros padres clamaron a Jehová, Jehová envió a Moisés y a Aarón, los cuales sacaron a vuestros padres de Egipto y los hicieron habitar en este lugar. 9 Pero ellos olvidaron a Jehová su Dios y él los entregó en manos de Sísara, jefe del ejército de Hazor, en manos de los filisteos y en manos del rey de Moab, que les hicieron guerra. 10 Ellos clamaron a Jehová, y dijeron: “Hemos pecado, porque hemos dejado a Jehová y hemos servido a los baales y a Astarot; líbranos ahora, pues, de manos de nuestros enemigos, y te serviremos.”
11 »Entonces Jehová envió a Jerobaal, a Barac, a Jefté y a Samuel, y os libró de manos de los enemigos que os rodeaban, y habitasteis seguros. 12 Pero cuando visteis que Nahas, rey de los hijos de Amón, venía contra vosotros, me dijisteis: “No, que reine sobre nosotros un rey”, siendo así que Jehová, vuestro Dios, era vuestro rey. 13 Ahora, pues, aquí tenéis al rey que habéis elegido, el cual pedisteis; ya veis que Jehová os ha dado un rey. 14 Si teméis a Jehová y lo servís, si escucháis su voz y no sois rebeldes a la palabra de Jehová, si tanto vosotros como el rey que reina sobre vosotros servís a Jehová, vuestro Dios, haréis bien. 15 Pero si no escucháis la voz de Jehová, si os rebeláis contra sus mandatos, la mano de Jehová estará contra vosotros como estuvo contra vuestros padres.
16 »Esperad aún ahora y mirad esta gran cosa que Jehová hará ante vuestros ojos. 17 ¿No es ahora la siega del trigo? Yo clamaré a Jehová, y él dará truenos y lluvias, para que conozcáis y veáis cuán grande es la maldad que habéis cometido ante los ojos de Jehová pidiendo para vosotros un rey.
18 Luego clamó Samuel a Jehová, y Jehová dio truenos y lluvias en aquel día; y todo el pueblo sintió un gran temor de Jehová y de Samuel. 19 Entonces dijo todo el pueblo a Samuel:
—Ruega por tus siervos a Jehová, tu Dios, para que no muramos; porque a todos nuestros pecados hemos añadido este mal de pedir un rey para nosotros.
20 Pero Samuel dijo al pueblo:
—No temáis; vosotros habéis hecho todo este mal; pero con todo eso no dejéis de seguir en pos de Jehová, sino servidle con todo vuestro corazón. 21 No os apartéis en pos de vanidades que no aprovechan ni libran, porque son vanidades. 22 Pues Jehová no desamparará a su pueblo, por su gran nombre; porque Jehová ha querido haceros pueblo suyo. 23 Así que, lejos de mí pecar contra Jehová dejando de rogar por vosotros; antes os instruiré en el camino bueno y recto. 24 Solamente temed a Jehová y servidle de verdad con todo vuestro corazón, pues habéis visto cuán grandes cosas ha hecho por vosotros. 25 Pero si perseveráis en hacer mal, vosotros y vuestro rey pereceréis.

12 撒母耳對以色列眾人說：「看哪，我已聽了你們對我所說一切的話，為你們立了一個王。 2 現在，看哪，有這王行走在你們前面。我已年老髮白，看哪，我的兒子都在你們這裏。我從幼年直到今日都行走在你們前面。 3 我在這裏，你們要在耶和華和他的受膏者面前為我作證，我奪過誰的牛，搶過誰的驢，欺負過誰，虐待過誰，從誰手裏收過賄賂而蒙蔽自己的眼目呢？若有，我必償還。」 4 眾人說：「你未曾欺負我們，虐待我們，也未曾從任何人手裏收過任何東西。」 5 撒母耳對他們說：「你們在我手裏沒有找着甚麼，有耶和華在你們中間作證，也有他的受膏者今日作證。」他們說[a]：「願耶和華作證。」
6 撒母耳對百姓說：「從前立摩西和亞倫，又領你們祖先出埃及地的是耶和華。 7 現在你們要站住，讓我在耶和華面前，以耶和華向你們和你們祖先所行一切公義的事來和你們爭辯。 8 從前雅各到了埃及，後來你們的祖先呼求耶和華，耶和華就差遣摩西和亞倫領你們的祖先出埃及，來到這地方居住。 9 他們卻忘記耶和華—他們的 神，他就把他們交給夏瑣將軍西西拉的手中，以及非利士人和摩押王的手中[b]。於是這些人常來攻擊他們。 10 他們呼求耶和華說：『我們離棄了耶和華去事奉諸巴力和亞斯她錄，我們有罪了。現在求你救我們脫離仇敵的手，我們必事奉你。』 11 耶和華就差遣耶路巴力、比但、耶弗他、撒母耳救你們脫離四圍仇敵的手，你們才安然居住。 12 你們見亞捫人的王拿轄來攻擊你們，就對我說：『不，要有一個王治理我們。』其實耶和華—你們的 神是你們的王。 13 現在，看哪，這就是你們所選的、你們所求的王。看哪，耶和華已經為你們立王了。 14 你們若敬畏耶和華，事奉他，聽從他的話，不違背耶和華的命令，你們和治理你們的王也都跟從耶和華—你們的 神就好了。 15 倘若不聽從耶和華的話，違背他的命令，耶和華的手必攻擊你們，像從前攻擊你們祖先一樣。 16 現在你們要站住，看耶和華在你們眼前要行的一件大事。 17 這不是割麥子的時候嗎？我求告耶和華，他必打雷降雨，讓你們知道並且看出，你們為自己求立王的事在耶和華眼前是犯大罪了。」 18 於是撒母耳求告耶和華，耶和華就在這日打雷降雨，眾百姓就非常懼怕耶和華和撒母耳。
19 眾百姓對撒母耳說：「請你為僕人向耶和華—你的 神禱告，免得我們死亡，因為我們求立王的事，正是罪上加罪了。」 20 撒母耳對百姓說：「不要懼怕！你們雖然行了這惡，卻不要偏離耶和華，只要盡心事奉他。 21 不可偏離去隨從那沒有益處、不能救人的虛無的神明[c]，因為它們是虛無的。 22 耶和華必因他大名的緣故不撇棄他的子民，因為耶和華喜悅你們作他的子民。 23 至於我，我如果停止為你們禱告，就得罪耶和華了，我絕不會這樣做。我必以善道正路指教你們。 24 但你們要敬畏耶和華，誠誠實實地盡心事奉他，因你們要留意，他向你們所行的事何等大。 25 你們若不斷作惡，你們和你們的王必一同滅亡。」

Samuel’s Farewell Speech
12 Samuel said to all Israel, “I have listened(A) to everything you said to me and have set a king(B) over you. 2 Now you have a king as your leader.(C) As for me, I am old and gray, and my sons(D) are here with you. I have been your leader from my youth until this day. 3 Here I stand. Testify against me in the presence of the Lord and his anointed.(E) Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey(F) have I taken? Whom have I cheated? Whom have I oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe(G) to make me shut my eyes? If I have done(H) any of these things, I will make it right.”(I)
4 “You have not cheated or oppressed us,” they replied. “You have not taken anything from anyone’s hand.”
5 Samuel said to them, “The Lord is witness(J) against you, and also his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything(K) in my hand.(L)”
“He is witness,” they said.
6 Then Samuel said to the people, “It is the Lord who appointed Moses and Aaron and brought(M) your ancestors up out of Egypt. 7 Now then, stand(N) here, because I am going to confront(O) you with evidence before the Lord as to all the righteous acts(P) performed by the Lord for you and your ancestors.
8 “After Jacob(Q) entered Egypt, they cried(R) to the Lord for help, and the Lord sent(S) Moses and Aaron, who brought your ancestors out of Egypt and settled them in this place.
9 “But they forgot(T) the Lord their God; so he sold them(U) into the hand of Sisera,(V) the commander of the army of Hazor,(W) and into the hands of the Philistines(X) and the king of Moab,(Y) who fought against them. 10 They cried(Z) out to the Lord and said, ‘We have sinned; we have forsaken(AA) the Lord and served the Baals and the Ashtoreths.(AB) But now deliver us from the hands of our enemies, and we will serve you.’ 11 Then the Lord sent Jerub-Baal,[a](AC) Barak,[b](AD) Jephthah(AE) and Samuel,[c](AF) and he delivered you from the hands of your enemies all around you, so that you lived in safety.
12 “But when you saw that Nahash(AG) king(AH) of the Ammonites was moving against you, you said to me, ‘No, we want a king to rule(AI) over us’—even though the Lord your God was your king. 13 Now here is the king(AJ) you have chosen, the one you asked(AK) for; see, the Lord has set a king over you. 14 If you fear(AL) the Lord and serve and obey him and do not rebel(AM) against his commands, and if both you and the king who reigns over you follow the Lord your God—good! 15 But if you do not obey the Lord, and if you rebel against(AN) his commands, his hand will be against you, as it was against your ancestors.
16 “Now then, stand still(AO) and see(AP) this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes! 17 Is it not wheat harvest(AQ) now? I will call(AR) on the Lord to send thunder(AS) and rain.(AT) And you will realize what an evil(AU) thing you did in the eyes of the Lord when you asked for a king.”
18 Then Samuel called on the Lord,(AV) and that same day the Lord sent thunder and rain. So all the people stood in awe(AW) of the Lord and of Samuel.
19 The people all said to Samuel, “Pray(AX) to the Lord your God for your servants so that we will not die,(AY) for we have added to all our other sins the evil of asking for a king.”
20 “Do not be afraid,” Samuel replied. “You have done all this evil;(AZ) yet do not turn away from the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart. 21 Do not turn away after useless(BA) idols.(BB) They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless. 22 For the sake(BC) of his great name(BD) the Lord will not reject(BE) his people, because the Lord was pleased to make(BF) you his own. 23 As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray(BG) for you. And I will teach(BH) you the way that is good and right. 24 But be sure to fear(BI) the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart;(BJ) consider(BK) what great(BL) things he has done for you. 25 Yet if you persist(BM) in doing evil, both you and your king(BN) will perish.”(BO)
