⁷ And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in all that they say to you, ^(A)for they have not rejected you, ^(B)but they have rejected me from being king over them.

^19 (A)But today you have rejected your God, who saves you from all your calamities and your distresses, and you have said to him, ‘Set a king over us.’ Now therefore ^(B)present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes and by your thousands.”

⁸ And Moses said, “When the Lord gives you in the evening meat to eat and in the morning bread to the full, because the Lord has heard your grumbling that you grumble against him—^(A)what are we? Your grumbling is not ^(B)against us but against the Lord.”

²⁷ But ^(A)as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and ^(B)slaughter them before me.’”

¹⁴ But ^(A)his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.’

^16 (A)“The one who hears you hears me, and ^(B)the one who rejects you rejects me, and ^(C)the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me.”

Rewards

^40 (A)“Whoever receives you receives me, and ^(B)whoever receives me receives him who sent me.

²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you: ^(A)‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, ^(B)they will also persecute you. ^(C)If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. ²¹ But ^(D)all these things they will do to you ^(E)on account of my name, ^(F)because they do not know him who sent me.
