⁶ But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” And Samuel prayed to the Lord.

^11 (A)“I regret^[a] that I have made Saul king, for he has turned back from following me and ^(B)has not performed my commandments.” And Samuel was angry, and he cried to the Lord all night.

^5 (A)If any of you lacks wisdom, ^(B)let him ask God, ^(C)who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

^17 (A)Is it not wheat harvest today? ^(B)I will call upon the Lord, that he may send thunder and rain. And you shall know and see that ^(C)your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of the Lord, in asking for yourselves a king.”

¹¹ But they were filled with ^(A)fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus.

The Twelve Apostles

¹² In these days ^(B)he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.

³ As soon as I heard this, I ^(A)tore my garment and my cloak and pulled hair from my head and beard and ^(B)sat appalled. ⁴ Then all who ^(C)trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the faithlessness of the returned exiles, gathered around me while I sat ^(D)appalled until the evening sacrifice. ⁵ And at the ^(E)evening sacrifice I rose from my fasting, with my garment ^(F)and my cloak torn, and fell upon my knees ^(G)and spread out my hands to the Lord my God,

⁴⁶ And Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer, and put fire on it from off the altar and lay incense on it and carry it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for ^(A)wrath has gone out from the Lord; the plague has begun.”

²² And they ^(A)fell on their faces and said, “O God, ^(B)the God of the spirits of all flesh, ^(C)shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?”
