¹² So David took the spear and the jar of water from Saul's head, and they went away. No man saw it or knew it, nor did any awake, for they were all asleep, because ^(A)a deep sleep from the Lord had fallen upon them.

²¹ So the Lord God caused a ^(A)deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh.

¹² As the sun was going down, a ^(A)deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him.

The King Honors Mordecai

6 On that night the king could not sleep. And he gave orders to bring ^(A)the book of memorable deeds, the chronicles, and they were read before the king.

⁷ So David and Abishai went to the army by night. And there lay Saul sleeping within ^(A)the encampment, with his spear stuck in the ground ^(B)at his head, and Abner and the army lay around him.

⁴ And the men of David said to him, ^(A)“Here is the day of which the Lord said to you, ‘Behold, I will give your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.’” Then David arose and stealthily cut off a corner of Saul's robe.
