David Saves the City of Keilah

23 Now they told David, “Behold, the Philistines are fighting against ^(A)Keilah and are robbing the threshing floors.”

^44 (A)Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah: nine cities with their villages.

¹⁷ After him the Levites repaired: Rehum the son of Bani. Next to him Hashabiah, ruler of half the district of Keilah, repaired for his district. ¹⁸ After him their brothers repaired: Bavvai the son of Henadad, ruler of half the district of Keilah.

⁴ They would encamp against them ^(A)and devour the produce of the land, as far as Gaza, and leave no sustenance in Israel and no sheep or ox or donkey.

⁵¹ It shall ^(A)eat the offspring of your cattle and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed; it also shall not leave you grain, wine, or oil, the increase of your herds or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish.

³³ A nation that you have not known shall eat up the fruit of your ground and of all your labors, and you shall be only oppressed and crushed continually,

¹⁶ then I will do this to you: I will visit you with panic, with ^(A)wasting disease and fever that consume the eyes and make the heart ache. And ^(B)you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

The Call of Gideon

¹¹ Now the angel of the Lord came and sat under the terebinth at Ophrah, which belonged to Joash ^(A)the Abiezrite, while his son ^(B)Gideon was beating out wheat in the winepress to hide it from the Midianites.
