²⁰ But one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named ^(A)Abiathar, escaped and fled after David.

^6 (A)When Abiathar the son of Ahimelech had fled to David to Keilah, he had come down with an ephod in his hand.

^7 (A)And David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Bring me the ephod.” So Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

²⁶ And to Abiathar the priest the king said, “Go to ^(A)Anathoth, to your estate, for you deserve death. But I will not at this time put you to death, ^(B)because you carried the ark of the Lord God before David my father, ^(C)and because you shared in all my father's affliction.” ^27 (D)So Solomon expelled Abiathar from being priest to the Lord, thus fulfilling ^(E)the word of the Lord that he had spoken concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

⁹ David knew that Saul was plotting harm against him. And he said to Abiathar the priest, ^(A)“Bring the ephod here.”

¹⁹ and behold, a great wind came across ^(A)the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young people, and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

The Death of Eli

¹² A man of Benjamin ran from the battle line and came to Shiloh the same day, ^(A)with his clothes torn and with dirt on his head.

³³ The only one of you whom I shall not cut off from my altar shall be spared to weep his^[a] eyes out to grieve his heart, and all the descendants^[b] of your house shall die by the sword of men.^[c]

¹⁵ and ^(A)the Sabeans fell upon them and took them and struck down the servants^[a] with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” ¹⁶ While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, ^(B)“The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” ¹⁷ While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, ^(C)“The Chaldeans formed ^(D)three groups and made a raid on the camels and took them and struck down the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

²⁵ and Sheva was secretary; and ^(A)Zadok and Abiathar were priests;
