⁶ Then Saul said to ^(A)the Kenites, “Go, depart; go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them. ^(B)For you showed kindness to all the people of Israel when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

¹⁶ And the descendants of the ^(A)Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah ^(B)from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near ^(C)Arad, ^(D)and they went and settled with the people.

²⁹ And Moses said to Hobab the son of ^(A)Reuel the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law, “We are setting out for the place of which the Lord said, ^(B)‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will do good to you, for ^(C)the Lord has promised good to Israel.” ³⁰ But he said to him, “I will not go. I will depart to my own land and to my kindred.” ³¹ And he said, “Please do not leave us, for you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you will serve ^(D)as eyes for us. ³² And if you do go with us, ^(E)whatever good the Lord will do to us, the same will we do to you.”

¹¹ Now Heber ^(A)the Kenite had separated from the Kenites, the descendants of ^(B)Hobab the father-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far away as the oak in ^(C)Zaanannim, which is near Kedesh.

²¹ And he looked on the Kenite, and took up his discourse and said,

¹⁹ Now obey my voice; I will give you advice, and God be with you! You shall ^(A)represent the people before God and ^(B)bring their cases to God,

¹⁰ When Achish asked, “Where have you ^(A)made a raid today?” David would say, “Against the Negeb of Judah,” or, “Against the Negeb of ^(B)the Jerahmeelites,” or, “Against the Negeb of ^(C)the Kenites.”

⁹ And Jethro rejoiced for all the good that the Lord had done to Israel, in that he had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians.

¹⁰ Jethro said, ^(A)“Blessed be the Lord, who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharaoh and has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.
