³⁷ And Saul inquired of God, “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you give them into the hand of Israel?” ^(A)But he did not answer him that day.

⁶ And when Saul inquired of the Lord, ^(A)the Lord did not answer him, either ^(B)by dreams, or ^(C)by Urim, or by prophets.

^3 (A)“Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their hearts, and set ^(B)the stumbling block of their iniquity before their faces. ^(C)Should I indeed let myself be consulted by them? ⁴ Therefore speak to them and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Any one of the house of Israel who takes his idols into his heart and sets the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to the prophet, ^(D)I the Lord will answer him as he comes with the multitude of his idols, ^5 (E)that I may lay hold of the hearts of the house of Israel, ^(F)who are all estranged from me through their idols.

¹⁵ And when he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we refrain?” And he answered him, “Go up and triumph; the Lord will give it into the hand of the king.”

⁵ And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Inquire first for the word of the Lord.”

^23 (A)And when David inquired of the Lord, he said, “You shall not go up; go around to their rear, and come against them opposite the balsam trees.

¹⁹ And David ^(A)inquired of the Lord, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you give them into my hand?” And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will certainly give the Philistines into your hand.”

^7 (A)And David said to Abiathar the priest, the son of Ahimelech, “Bring me the ephod.” So Abiathar brought the ephod to David. ^8 (B)And David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I pursue after this ^(C)band? Shall I overtake them?” He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake ^(D)and shall surely rescue.”

⁹ David knew that Saul was plotting harm against him. And he said to Abiathar the priest, ^(A)“Bring the ephod here.” ¹⁰ Then David said, “O Lord, the God of Israel, your servant has surely heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city on my account. ¹¹ Will the men of Keilah surrender me into his hand? Will Saul come down, as your servant has heard? O Lord, the God of Israel, please tell your servant.” And the Lord said, “He will come down.” ¹² Then David said, “Will the men of Keilah surrender me and my men into the hand of Saul?” And the Lord said, ^(B)“They will surrender you.”

⁴ Then David ^(A)inquired of the Lord again. And the Lord answered him, “Arise, go down to Keilah, ^(B)for I will give the Philistines into your hand.”
