¹⁴ Then Samuel said to the people, “Come, let us go to Gilgal and there renew the kingdom.”

⁸ Then go down before me ^(A)to Gilgal. And behold, I am coming down to you to offer burnt offerings and ^(B)to sacrifice peace offerings. ^(C)Seven days you shall wait, until I come to you and show you what you shall do.”

¹⁶ And he went on a circuit year by year to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah. And he judged Israel in all these places.

³⁸ All these, men of war, arrayed in battle order, came to Hebron with ^(A)a whole heart to make David king over all Israel. Likewise, all the rest of Israel were of a ^(B)single mind to make David king. ³⁹ And they were there with David for three days, eating and drinking, for their brothers had made preparation for them.

²⁴ And Samuel said to all the people, “Do you see him ^(A)whom the Lord has chosen? There is none like him among all the people.” And all the people shouted, ^(B)“Long live the king!”

²⁵ Then Samuel told the people ^(C)the rights and duties of the kingship, and he wrote them in a book and laid it up before the Lord. Then Samuel sent all the people away, each one to his home.

³ And when the people of Ashdod rose early the next day, behold, ^(A)Dagon had fallen face downward on the ground before the ark of the Lord. So they took Dagon and put him back in his place.
