Abiiam, re di Giuda
15 (A)Il diciottesimo anno del regno di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, Abiiam cominciò a regnare sopra Giuda. 2 Regnò tre anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Maaca, figlia di Abisalom[a].
3 Egli si abbandonò a tutti i peccati che suo padre aveva commessi prima di lui, e il suo cuore non fu tutto quanto per il Signore, suo Dio, com’era stato il cuore di Davide suo padre. 4 Tuttavia, per amore di Davide, il Signore, suo Dio, gli lasciò una lampada[b] a Gerusalemme, stabilendo dopo di lui suo figlio e lasciando sussistere Gerusalemme; 5 perché Davide aveva fatto ciò che è giusto agli occhi del Signore e non si era scostato in nulla dai suoi comandamenti per tutto il tempo della sua vita, salvo nel fatto di Uria, l’Ittita.
6 Tra Roboamo e Geroboamo vi fu guerra, finché Roboamo visse.
7 Il resto delle azioni di Abiiam e tutto quello che egli fece è scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda. Vi fu guerra fra Abiiam e Geroboamo.
8 E Abiiam si addormentò con i suoi padri, e fu sepolto nella città di Davide; e Asa, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto.
Asa, re di Giuda
9 (B)Il ventesimo anno del regno di Geroboamo, re d’Israele, Asa cominciò a regnare sopra Giuda. 10 Regnò quarantun anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre[c] si chiamava Maaca, figlia di Abisalom.
11 Asa fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi del Signore, come aveva fatto Davide suo padre: 12 eliminò dal paese quelli che si prostituivano, fece sparire tutti gl’idoli che i suoi padri avevano fatti 13 e destituì pure dalla dignità di regina sua madre Maaca, perché lei aveva innalzato un’immagine ad Astarte; Asa abbatté l’immagine e la bruciò presso il torrente Chidron. 14 Tuttavia gli alti luoghi[d] non furono eliminati, sebbene il cuore di Asa fosse interamente per il Signore, durante tutta la sua vita. 15 Egli fece portare nella casa del Signore le cose che suo padre aveva consacrate e quelle che aveva consacrate egli stesso: argento, oro, vasi.
16 (C)Ci fu guerra tra Asa e Baasa, re d’Israele, tutto il tempo della loro vita. 17 Baasa, re d’Israele, salì contro Giuda e costruì[e] Rama, perché nessuno andasse e venisse dalla parte di Asa, re di Giuda. 18 Allora Asa prese tutto l’argento e l’oro che era rimasto nei tesori della casa del Signore, prese i tesori del palazzo del re e li affidò ai suoi servitori, che mandò presso Ben-Adad, figlio di Tabrimmon, figlio di Chesion, re di Siria, che abitava a Damasco, per dirgli: 19 «Ci sia alleanza fra me e te, come ci fu tra mio padre e tuo padre. Ecco, io ti mando in dono dell’argento e dell’oro; va’, rompi la tua alleanza con Baasa, re d’Israele, affinché egli si ritiri da me». 20 Ben-Adad diede ascolto al re Asa; mandò i capi del suo esercito contro le città d’Israele ed espugnò Iion, Dan, Abel-Bet-Maaca e tutta la regione di Chinnerot con tutto il paese di Neftali. 21 Quando Baasa udì questo, cessò di costruire Rama e rimase a Tirsa. 22 Allora il re Asa convocò tutti quelli di Giuda, senza escludere nessuno; e quelli portarono via le pietre e il legname di cui Baasa si era servito per la costruzione di Rama; e con essi il re Asa costruì Gheba di Beniamino e Mispa.
23 Il resto di tutte le azioni di Asa, tutte le sue prodezze, tutto ciò che egli fece e le città che costruì, si trova scritto nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda. Ma, nella sua vecchiaia, egli soffrì di male ai piedi.
24 Asa si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto con essi nella città di Davide, suo padre; e Giosafat, suo figlio, regnò al suo posto.
Nadab, re d’Israele
25 (D)Nadab, figlio di Geroboamo, cominciò a regnare sopra Israele il secondo anno di Asa, re di Giuda, e regnò sopra Israele due anni.
26 Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore; seguì la via di suo padre e imitò il peccato che aveva fatto commettere a Israele. 27 Baasa, figlio di Aiia, della casa d’Issacar, cospirò contro di lui e lo uccise a Ghibbeton, che apparteneva ai Filistei, mentre Nadab e tutto Israele assediavano Ghibbeton. 28 Baasa lo uccise il terzo anno di Asa, re di Giuda, e regnò al suo posto. 29 Appena fu re, Baasa sterminò tutta la casa di Geroboamo; non risparmiò nessuno di quella casa, ma la distrusse interamente, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva pronunciata per bocca del suo servo Aiia di Silo, 30 a causa dei peccati che Geroboamo aveva commessi e fatto commettere a Israele, quando aveva provocato l’ira del Signore, Dio d’Israele. 31 Il resto delle azioni di Nadab e tutto quello che fece sono scritti nel libro delle Cronache dei re d’Israele.
Baasa, re d’Israele
32 (E)Ci fu guerra tra Asa e Baasa, re d’Israele, tutto il tempo della loro vita.
33 Il terzo anno di Asa, re di Giuda, Baasa, figlio di Aiia, cominciò a regnare su tutto Israele. Stava a Tirsa, e regnò ventiquattro anni.
34 Fece quel che è male agli occhi del Signore; seguì la via di Geroboamo e imitò il peccato che questi aveva fatto commettere a Israele.

Regno di Abiam in Giuda (913-911)
15 Nell'anno diciottesimo del re Geroboamo, figlio di Nebàt, divenne re su Giuda Abiam. 2 Egli regnò tre anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Maaca, figlia di Assalonne. 3 Egli imitò tutti i peccati che suo padre aveva commessi prima di lui; il suo cuore non fu sottomesso al Signore suo Dio, come lo era stato il cuore di Davide suo antenato. 4 Ma, per amore di Davide, il Signore suo Dio gli concesse una lampada in Gerusalemme, innalzandone il figlio dopo di lui e rendendo stabile Gerusalemme, 5 perché Davide aveva fatto ciò che è giusto agli occhi del Signore e non aveva traviato dai comandi che il Signore gli aveva impartiti, durante tutta la sua vita, se si eccettua il caso di Uria l'Hittita.
6 Le altre gesta di Abiam, tutte le sue azioni, sono descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda. 7 Ci fu guerra fra Abiam e Geroboamo. 8 Abiam si addormentò con i suoi padri; lo seppellirono nella città di Davide e al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Asa.
Regno di Asa in Giuda (911-870)
9 Nell'anno ventesimo di Geroboamo, re di Israele, divenne re su Giuda Asa. 10 Costui regnò quarantun anni in Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Maaca, figlia di Assalonne. 11 Asa, come Davide suo antenato, fece ciò che è giusto agli occhi del Signore. 12 Eliminò i prostituti sacri dal paese e allontanò tutti gli idoli eretti da suo padre. 13 Anche sua madre Maaca egli privò della dignità di regina madre, perché essa aveva eretto un obbrobrio in onore di Asera; Asa abbattè l'obbrobrio e lo bruciò nella valle del torrente Cedron. 14 Ma non scomparvero le alture, anche se il cuore di Asa si mantenne integro nei riguardi del Signore per tutta la sua vita. 15 Fece portare nel tempio le offerte consacrate da suo padre e quelle consacrate da lui stesso, consistenti in argento, oro e vasi.
16 Ci fu guerra fra Asa e Baasa, re di Israele, per tutta la loro vita. 17 Baasa, re di Israele, assalì Giuda; egli fortificò Rama per impedire le comunicazioni con Asa re di Giuda. 18 Asa prese tutto l'argento e l'oro depositato nei tesori del tempio e nei tesori della reggia, li consegnò ai suoi ministri, che li portarono per ordine del re Asa a Ben-Hadàd, figlio di Tab-Rimmòn, figlio di Chezion, re d'Aram, che risiedeva in Damasco, con la proposta: 19 «Ci sia un'alleanza fra me e te, come ci fu fra mio padre e tuo padre. Regno di Nadàb in Israele (910-909)
25 Nadàb, figlio di Geroboamo, divenne re d'Israele nell'anno secondo di Asa, re di Giuda, e regnò su Israele tre anni. 26 Egli fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, imitando la condotta di suo padre e il peccato che questi aveva fatto commettere a Israele. 27 Contro di lui congiurò Baasa figlio di Achia, della casa di Issacar, e lo assassinò in Ghibbeton che apparteneva ai Filistei, mentre Nadàb e tutto Israele assediavano Ghibbeton. 28 Baasa lo uccise nell'anno terzo di Asa re di Giuda, e divenne re al suo posto. 29 Appena divenuto re, egli distrusse tutta la famiglia di Geroboamo: non lasciò vivo nessuno di quella stirpe, ma la distrusse tutta, secondo la parola del Signore pronunziata per mezzo del suo servo Achia di Silo, 30 a causa dei peccati di Geroboamo, commessi da lui e fatti commettere a Israele, e a causa dello sdegno a cui aveva provocato il Signore Dio di Israele.

Abijah King of Judah(A)
15 In the eighteenth year of the reign of Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijah[a] became king of Judah, 2 and he reigned in Jerusalem three years. His mother’s name was Maakah(B) daughter of Abishalom.[b]
3 He committed all the sins his father had done before him; his heart was not fully devoted(C) to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his forefather had been. 4 Nevertheless, for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp(D) in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong. 5 For David had done what was right in the eyes of the Lord and had not failed to keep(E) any of the Lord’s commands all the days of his life—except in the case of Uriah(F) the Hittite.
6 There was war(G) between Abijah[c] and Jeroboam throughout Abijah’s lifetime. 7 As for the other events of Abijah’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam. 8 And Abijah rested with his ancestors and was buried in the City of David. And Asa his son succeeded him as king.
Asa King of Judah(H)(I)
9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah, 10 and he reigned in Jerusalem forty-one years. His grandmother’s name was Maakah(J) daughter of Abishalom.
11 Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as his father David(K) had done. 12 He expelled the male shrine prostitutes(L) from the land and got rid of all the idols(M) his ancestors had made. 13 He even deposed his grandmother Maakah(N) from her position as queen mother,(O) because she had made a repulsive image for the worship of Asherah. Asa cut it down(P) and burned it in the Kidron Valley. 14 Although he did not remove(Q) the high places, Asa’s heart was fully committed(R) to the Lord all his life. 15 He brought into the temple of the Lord the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated.(S)
16 There was war(T) between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns. 17 Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah(U) to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah.
18 Asa then took all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of the Lord’s temple(V) and of his own palace. He entrusted it to his officials and sent(W) them to Ben-Hadad(X) son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, the king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus. 19 “Let there be a treaty(Y) between me and you,” he said, “as there was between my father and your father. See, I am sending you a gift of silver and gold. Now break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so he will withdraw from me.”
20 Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the commanders of his forces against the towns of Israel. He conquered(Z) Ijon, Dan, Abel Beth Maakah and all Kinnereth in addition to Naphtali. 21 When Baasha heard this, he stopped building Ramah(AA) and withdrew to Tirzah.(AB) 22 Then King Asa issued an order to all Judah—no one was exempt—and they carried away from Ramah(AC) the stones and timber Baasha had been using there. With them King Asa(AD) built up Geba(AE) in Benjamin, and also Mizpah.(AF)
23 As for all the other events of Asa’s reign, all his achievements, all he did and the cities he built, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? In his old age, however, his feet became diseased. 24 Then Asa rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of his father David. And Jehoshaphat(AG) his son succeeded him as king.
Nadab King of Israel
25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years. 26 He did evil(AH) in the eyes of the Lord, following the ways of his father(AI) and committing the same sin his father had caused Israel to commit.
27 Baasha son of Ahijah from the tribe of Issachar plotted against him, and he struck him down(AJ) at Gibbethon,(AK) a Philistine town, while Nadab and all Israel were besieging it. 28 Baasha killed Nadab in the third year of Asa king of Judah and succeeded him as king.
29 As soon as he began to reign, he killed Jeroboam’s whole family.(AL) He did not leave Jeroboam anyone that breathed, but destroyed them all, according to the word of the Lord given through his servant Ahijah the Shilonite. 30 This happened because of the sins(AM) Jeroboam had committed and had caused(AN) Israel to commit, and because he aroused the anger of the Lord, the God of Israel.
31 As for the other events of Nadab’s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals(AO) of the kings of Israel? 32 There was war(AP) between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns.
Baasha King of Israel
33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of all Israel in Tirzah,(AQ) and he reigned twenty-four years. 34 He did evil(AR) in the eyes of the Lord, following the ways of Jeroboam and committing the same sin Jeroboam had caused Israel to commit.
