Be Holy

¹³ Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober,^(A) set your hope^(B) on the grace to be brought to you^(C) when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.^(D)

⁸ Be alert and of sober mind.^(A) Your enemy the devil prowls around^(B) like a roaring lion^(C) looking for someone to devour.

Watchfulness^(A)(B)

³⁵ “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning,

⁷ The end of all things is near.^(A) Therefore be alert and of sober mind^(B) so that you may pray.

¹⁵ But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer^(A) to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope^(B) that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

²⁸ so Christ was sacrificed once^(A) to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time,^(B) not to bear sin,^(C) but to bring salvation^(D) to those who are waiting for him.^(E)

³ All who have this hope in him purify themselves,^(A) just as he is pure.^(B)

¹¹ For the grace^(A) of God has appeared^(B) that offers salvation to all people.^{(C) 12} It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions,^(D) and to live self-controlled,^(E) upright and godly lives^(F) in this present age, ¹³ while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing^(G) of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,^(H)

⁶ So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep,^(A) but let us be awake^(B) and sober.^{(C) 7} For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.^{(D) 8} But since we belong to the day,^(E) let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate,^(F) and the hope of salvation^(G) as a helmet.^(H)
