² through whom we have gained access^(A) by faith into this grace in which we now stand.^(B) And we^[a] boast in the hope^(C) of the glory of God. ³ Not only so, but we^[b] also glory in our sufferings,^(D) because we know that suffering produces perseverance;^{(E) 4} perseverance, character; and character, hope. ⁵ And hope^(F) does not put us to shame, because God’s love^(G) has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit,^(H) who has been given to us.

⁵ For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope.^(A)

⁶ For in Christ Jesus^(A) neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value.^(B) The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.^(C)

² Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another^(A) in love.^{(B) 3} Make every effort to keep the unity^(C) of the Spirit through the bond of peace.^{(D) 4} There is one body^(E) and one Spirit,^(F) just as you were called to one hope when you were called^(G); ⁵ one Lord,^(H) one faith, one baptism;

⁴ because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love^(A) you have for all God’s people^(B)—

⁵ the faith and love that spring from the hope^(A) stored up for you in heaven^(B) and about which you have already heard in the true message^(C) of the gospel

³ We remember before our God and Father^(A) your work produced by faith,^(B) your labor prompted by love,^(C) and your endurance inspired by hope^(D) in our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁸ But since we belong to the day,^(A) let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate,^(B) and the hope of salvation^(C) as a helmet.^(D)

¹⁰ God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.^{(A) 11} We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope^(B) for may be fully realized. ¹² We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate^(C) those who through faith and patience^(D) inherit what has been promised.^(E)
