34 Bacchides learned of this on the Sabbath day, and he crossed the Jordan with his entire army.
35 Jonathan sent his brother[a] to act as leader of the multitude and to ask the Nabateans, with whom he was friendly, for permission to store with them the great quantity of baggage that they had brought with them. 36 However, the sons of Jambri made a sortie from Medeba,[b] captured John, and carried off the baggage.
