49 When the two kings met in battle, the army of Demetrius fled, and Alexander pursued him and defeated his soldiers. 50 The battle raged fiercely until sunset, and Demetrius was killed on that day.

  1. 1 Maccabees 10:51 The new alliance is ratified in 150 B.C. at Ptolemais, a city that had remained half-Egyptian: the new king of Antioch married Cleopatra, the daughter of the king of Egypt. Cleopatra was about fifteen; she later married Demetrius II and still later his brother Antiochus VII.
