4 Dafür halte uns jedermann: für Christi Diener und Haushalter über Gottes Geheimnisse.
2 Nun sucht man nicht mehr an den Haushaltern, denn daß sie treu erfunden werden.
3 Mir aber ist's ein Geringes, daß ich von euch gerichtet werde oder von einem menschlichen Tage; auch richte ich mich selbst nicht.
4 Denn ich bin mir nichts bewußt, aber darin bin ich nicht gerechtfertigt; der HERR ist's aber, der mich richtet.
5 Darum richtet nicht vor der Zeit, bis der HERR komme, welcher auch wird ans Licht bringen, was im Finstern verborgen ist, und den Rat der Herzen offenbaren; alsdann wird einem jeglichen von Gott Lob widerfahren.
6 Solches aber, liebe Brüder, habe ich auf mich und Apollos gedeutet um euretwillen, daß ihr an uns lernet, daß niemand höher von sich halte, denn geschrieben ist, auf daß sich nicht einer wider den andern um jemandes willen aufblase.
7 Denn wer hat dich vorgezogen? Was hast du aber, daß du nicht empfangen hast? So du es aber empfangen hast, was rühmst du dich denn, als ob du es nicht empfangen hättest?
8 Ihr seid schon satt geworden, ihr seid schon reich geworden, ihr herrschet ohne uns; und wollte Gott, ihr herrschtet, auf daß auch wir mit euch herrschen möchten!
9 Ich halte aber dafür, Gott habe uns Apostel für die Allergeringsten dargestellt, als dem Tode übergeben. Denn wir sind ein Schauspiel geworden der Welt und den Engeln und den Menschen.
10 Wir sind Narren um Christi willen, ihr aber seid klug in Christo; wir schwach, ihr aber seid stark; ihr herrlich, wir aber verachtet.
11 Bis auf diese Stunde leiden wir Hunger und Durst und sind nackt und werden geschlagen und haben keine gewisse Stätte
12 und arbeiten und wirken mit unsern eigenen Händen. Man schilt uns, so segnen wir; man verfolgt uns, so dulden wir's; man lästert uns, so flehen wir;
13 wir sind stets wie ein Fluch der Welt und ein Fegopfer aller Leute.
14 Nicht schreibe ich solches, daß ich euch beschäme; sondern ich vermahne euch als meine lieben Kinder.
15 Denn obgleich ihr zehntausend Zuchtmeister hättet in Christo, so habt ihr doch nicht viele Väter; denn ich habe euch gezeugt in Christo Jesu durchs Evangelium.
16 Darum ermahne ich euch: Seid meine Nachfolger!
17 Aus derselben Ursache habe ich auch Timotheus zu euch gesandt, welcher ist mein lieber und getreuer Sohn in dem HERRN, daß er euch erinnere meiner Wege, die in Christo sind, gleichwie ich an allen Enden in allen Gemeinden lehre.
18 Es blähen sich etliche auf, als würde ich nicht zu euch kommen.
19 Ich werde aber gar bald zu euch kommen, so der HERR will, und kennen lernen nicht die Worte der Aufgeblasenen, sondern die Kraft.
20 Denn das Reich Gottes steht nicht in Worten, sondern in Kraft.
21 Was wollt ihr? Soll ich mit der Rute zu euch kommen oder mit Liebe und sanftmütigem Geist?

4 ουτως ημας λογιζεσθω ανθρωπος ως υπηρετας χριστου και οικονομους μυστηριων θεου
2 ο δε λοιπον ζητειται εν τοις οικονομοις ινα πιστος τις ευρεθη
3 εμοι δε εις ελαχιστον εστιν ινα υφ υμων ανακριθω η υπο ανθρωπινης ημερας αλλ ουδε εμαυτον ανακρινω
4 ουδεν γαρ εμαυτω συνοιδα αλλ ουκ εν τουτω δεδικαιωμαι ο δε ανακρινων με κυριος εστιν
5 ωστε μη προ καιρου τι κρινετε εως αν ελθη ο κυριος ος και φωτισει τα κρυπτα του σκοτους και φανερωσει τας βουλας των καρδιων και τοτε ο επαινος γενησεται εκαστω απο του θεου
6 ταυτα δε αδελφοι μετεσχηματισα εις εμαυτον και απολλω δι υμας ινα εν ημιν μαθητε το μη υπερ ο γεγραπται φρονειν ινα μη εις υπερ του ενος φυσιουσθε κατα του ετερου
7 τις γαρ σε διακρινει τι δε εχεις ο ουκ ελαβες ει δε και ελαβες τι καυχασαι ως μη λαβων
8 ηδη κεκορεσμενοι εστε ηδη επλουτησατε χωρις ημων εβασιλευσατε και οφελον γε εβασιλευσατε ινα και ημεις υμιν συμβασιλευσωμεν
9 δοκω γαρ οτι ο θεος ημας τους αποστολους εσχατους απεδειξεν ως επιθανατιους οτι θεατρον εγενηθημεν τω κοσμω και αγγελοις και ανθρωποις
10 ημεις μωροι δια χριστον υμεις δε φρονιμοι εν χριστω ημεις ασθενεις υμεις δε ισχυροι υμεις ενδοξοι ημεις δε ατιμοι
11 αχρι της αρτι ωρας και πεινωμεν και διψωμεν και γυμνητευομεν και κολαφιζομεθα και αστατουμεν
12 και κοπιωμεν εργαζομενοι ταις ιδιαις χερσιν λοιδορουμενοι ευλογουμεν διωκομενοι ανεχομεθα
13 βλασφημουμενοι παρακαλουμεν ως περικαθαρματα του κοσμου εγενηθημεν παντων περιψημα εως αρτι
14 ουκ εντρεπων υμας γραφω ταυτα αλλ ως τεκνα μου αγαπητα νουθετω
15 εαν γαρ μυριους παιδαγωγους εχητε εν χριστω αλλ ου πολλους πατερας εν γαρ χριστω ιησου δια του ευαγγελιου εγω υμας εγεννησα
16 παρακαλω ουν υμας μιμηται μου γινεσθε
17 δια τουτο επεμψα υμιν τιμοθεον ος εστιν τεκνον μου αγαπητον και πιστον εν κυριω ος υμας αναμνησει τας οδους μου τας εν χριστω καθως πανταχου εν παση εκκλησια διδασκω
18 ως μη ερχομενου δε μου προς υμας εφυσιωθησαν τινες
19 ελευσομαι δε ταχεως προς υμας εαν ο κυριος θεληση και γνωσομαι ου τον λογον των πεφυσιωμενων αλλα την δυναμιν
20 ου γαρ εν λογω η βασιλεια του θεου αλλ εν δυναμει
21 τι θελετε εν ραβδω ελθω προς υμας η εν αγαπη πνευματι τε πραοτητος

The Nature of True Apostleship
4 This, then, is how you ought to regard us: as servants(A) of Christ and as those entrusted(B) with the mysteries(C) God has revealed. 2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. 3 I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. 4 My conscience(D) is clear, but that does not make me innocent.(E) It is the Lord who judges me.(F) 5 Therefore judge nothing(G) before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes.(H) He will bring to light(I) what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of the heart. At that time each will receive their praise from God.(J)
6 Now, brothers and sisters, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, “Do not go beyond what is written.”(K) Then you will not be puffed up in being a follower of one of us over against the other.(L) 7 For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive?(M) And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?
8 Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich!(N) You have begun to reign—and that without us! How I wish that you really had begun to reign so that we also might reign with you! 9 For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like those condemned to die(O) in the arena. We have been made a spectacle(P) to the whole universe, to angels as well as to human beings. 10 We are fools for Christ,(Q) but you are so wise in Christ!(R) We are weak, but you are strong!(S) You are honored, we are dishonored! 11 To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless.(T) 12 We work hard with our own hands.(U) When we are cursed, we bless;(V) when we are persecuted,(W) we endure it; 13 when we are slandered, we answer kindly. We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage(X) of the world—right up to this moment.
Paul’s Appeal and Warning
14 I am writing this not to shame you(Y) but to warn you as my dear children.(Z) 15 Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father(AA) through the gospel.(AB) 16 Therefore I urge you to imitate me.(AC) 17 For this reason I have sent to you(AD) Timothy,(AE) my son(AF) whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.(AG)
18 Some of you have become arrogant,(AH) as if I were not coming to you.(AI) 19 But I will come to you very soon,(AJ) if the Lord is willing,(AK) and then I will find out not only how these arrogant people are talking, but what power they have. 20 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of(AL) talk but of power.(AM) 21 What do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a rod of discipline,(AN) or shall I come in love and with a gentle spirit?
