⁴⁶ “When they sin against You (for ^(A)there is no person who does not sin) and You are angry with them and turn them over to an enemy, so that ^[a]they take them away captive ^(B)to the land of the enemy, distant or near; ^47 (C)if they ^[b]take it to heart in the land where they have been taken captive, and repent and implore Your ^[c]favor in the land of those who have taken them captive, saying, ‘^(D)We have sinned and done wrong, we have acted wickedly’; ^48 (E)if they return to You with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who have taken them captive, and ^(F)pray to You toward their land which You have given to their fathers, the city which You have chosen, and the house which I have built for Your name; ⁴⁹ then hear their prayer and their pleading in heaven, Your dwelling place, and maintain their cause, ⁵⁰ and forgive Your people who have sinned against You and all their wrongdoings which they have committed against You, and ^(G)make them objects of compassion before those who have taken them captive, so that they will have compassion on them

²⁰ Indeed, ^(A)there is not a righteous person on earth who always does good and does not ever sin.

⁹ What then? ^[a](A)Are we better than they? Not at all; for we have already charged that both ^(B)Jews and ^(C)Greeks are ^(D)all under sin; ¹⁰ as it is written:

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the ^(K)Law says, it speaks to ^(L)those who are ^[d]under the Law, so that every mouth may be closed and ^(M)all the world may become accountable to God; ²⁰ because ^(N)by the works ^[e]of the Law ^[f]none of mankind will be justified in His sight; for ^[g](O)through the Law comes ^[h]knowledge of sin.
