He ruled for three years in Jerusalem. His mother was named Maacah, daughter of Abishalom. He followed the sinful example his father had set and wasn’t committed to the Lord his God as his ancestor David had been. But for David’s sake the Lord his God made Abijam a lamp in Jerusalem. He appointed David’s descendant to rule after him and protected Jerusalem.

He committed all the sins his father had done before him; his heart was not fully devoted(B) to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his forefather had been. Nevertheless, for David’s sake the Lord his God gave him a lamp(C) in Jerusalem by raising up a son to succeed him and by making Jerusalem strong.
