⁸I tore the kingdom away from David’s family, and I gave it to you. But you are not like my servant David, who always obeyed my commands and followed me with all his heart. He did only what I said was right. ⁹But you have done more evil than anyone who ruled before you. You have quit following me and have made other gods and idols of metal. This has made me very angry, ¹⁰so I will soon bring disaster to your family. I will kill all the men in your family, both slaves and free men. I will destroy your family as completely as fire burns up manure.

⁸I tore^(A) the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you, but you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commands and followed me with all his heart, doing only what was right^(B) in my eyes. ⁹You have done more evil^(C) than all who lived before you.^(D) You have made for yourself other gods, idols^(E) made of metal; you have aroused^(F) my anger and turned your back on me.^(G)

¹⁰“‘Because of this, I am going to bring disaster^(H) on the house of Jeroboam. I will cut off from Jeroboam every last male in Israel—slave or free.^[a]^(I) I will burn up the house of Jeroboam as one burns dung, until it is all gone.^(J)

⁸And tore the Kingdom from the Bais Dovid, and gave it thee; and yet thou hast not been as Avdi Dovid, who was shomer over My mitzvot, and who followed after Me with all his lev, to do only yashar in Mine eyes;

⁹But hast done rah more than all that were before thee; for thou hast gone and made for thee elohim acherim, and massekhot (metal idols), to provoke Me to anger, and hast thrust Me behind thy gav (back);

¹⁰Therefore, hineni, I will bring ra’ah upon the Bais Yarov‘am, and will cut off from Yarov‘am mashtin b’kir (him that urinates against the wall, i.e., every male), atzur (bond) or azuv (free) in Yisroel, and I will sweep out after the Bais Yarov’am just as one sweepeth out the dung, till it be all gone.
