⁹ There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets^(A) that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the Israelites after they came out of Egypt.

²¹ Place the cover on top of the ark^(A) and put in the ark the tablets of the covenant law^(B) that I will give you.

⁴ which had the golden altar of incense^(A) and the gold-covered ark of the covenant.^(B) This ark contained the gold jar of manna,^(C) Aaron’s staff that had budded,^(D) and the stone tablets of the covenant.^(E)

²⁰ He took the tablets of the covenant law^(A) and placed them in the ark,^(B) attached the poles to the ark and put the atonement cover^(C) over it.

² I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Then you are to put them in the ark.”^(A)

³ So I made the ark out of acacia wood^(B) and chiseled^(C) out two stone tablets like the first ones, and I went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hands. ⁴ The Lord wrote on these tablets what he had written before, the Ten Commandments^(D) he had proclaimed^(E) to you on the mountain, out of the fire, on the day of the assembly.^(F) And the Lord gave them to me. ⁵ Then I came back down the mountain^(G) and put the tablets in the ark^(H) I had made,^(I) as the Lord commanded me, and they are there now.^(J)

The Dedication of the Temple^(A)

7 When Solomon finished praying, fire^(B) came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled^(C) the temple.^{(D) 2} The priests could not enter^(E) the temple of the Lord because the glory^(F) of the Lord filled it. ³ When all the Israelites saw the fire coming down and the glory of the Lord above the temple, they knelt on the pavement with their faces to the ground, and they worshiped and gave thanks to the Lord, saying,

¹³ He declared to you his covenant,^(A) the Ten Commandments,^(B) which he commanded you to follow and then wrote them on two stone tablets.

²⁷ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write^(A) down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant^(B) with you and with Israel.” ²⁸ Moses was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights^(C) without eating bread or drinking water.^(D) And he wrote on the tablets^(E) the words of the covenant—the Ten Commandments.^(F)
