⁴⁰ Ahab rested with his ancestors. And Ahaziah his son succeeded him as king.

³⁵ Later, Jehoshaphat king of Judah made an alliance^(A) with Ahaziah king of Israel, whose ways were wicked.^(B)

¹⁷ So he died,^(A) according to the word of the Lord that Elijah had spoken.

Because Ahaziah had no son, Joram^[a](B) succeeded him as king in the second year of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah.

² Now Ahaziah had fallen through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. So he sent messengers,^(A) saying to them, “Go and consult Baal-Zebub,^(B) the god of Ekron,^(C) to see if I will recover^(D) from this injury.”

⁵¹ Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years.

³¹ And Rehoboam rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the City of David. His mother’s name was Naamah; she was an Ammonite.^(A) And Abijah^[a] his son succeeded him as king.

²¹ While he was in Egypt, Hadad heard that David rested with his ancestors and that Joab the commander of the army was also dead. Then Hadad said to Pharaoh, “Let me go, that I may return to my own country.”

¹⁰ Then David rested with his ancestors and was buried^(A) in the City of David.^(B)

¹⁶ And the Lord said to Moses: “You are going to rest with your ancestors,^(A) and these people will soon prostitute^(B) themselves to the foreign gods of the land they are entering. They will forsake^(C) me and break the covenant I made with them.
