¹³ Then two scoundrels came and sat opposite him and brought charges against Naboth before the people, saying, “Naboth has cursed both God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death.^(A)

²⁶ ‘Yesterday I saw the blood of Naboth^(A) and the blood of his sons, declares the Lord, and I will surely make you pay for it on this plot of ground, declares the Lord.’^[a] Now then, pick him up and throw him on that plot, in accordance with the word of the Lord.”^(B)

⁵ “We have found this man to be a troublemaker, stirring up riots^(A) among the Jews^(B) all over the world. He is a ringleader of the Nazarene^(C) sect^(D)

⁵⁷ At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, ⁵⁸ dragged him out of the city^(A) and began to stone him.^(B) Meanwhile, the witnesses^(C) laid their coats^(D) at the feet of a young man named Saul.^(E)

⁵⁹ While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”^(F)

¹¹ Then they secretly^(A) persuaded some men to say, “We have heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.”^(B)

¹² From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king^(A) opposes Caesar.”

² And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation.^(A) He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar^(B) and claims to be Messiah, a king.”^(C)

⁵⁶ Many testified falsely against him, but their statements did not agree.

⁵⁷ Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: ⁵⁸ “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple made with human hands and in three days will build another,^(A) not made with hands.’” ⁵⁹ Yet even then their testimony did not agree.

³ At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming!”^(A)
