³⁷ Answer me, Lord, answer me, so these people will know^(A) that you, Lord, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.”

²⁵ I will sprinkle^(A) clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse^(B) you from all your impurities^(C) and from all your idols.^{(D) 26} I will give you a new heart^(E) and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone^(F) and give you a heart of flesh.^{(G) 27} And I will put my Spirit^(H) in you and move you to follow my decrees^(I) and be careful to keep my laws.^(J)

²⁴ Then you call^(A) on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord.^(B) The god who answers by fire^(C)—he is God.”

Then all the people said, “What you say is good.”

⁸ I tell you, even though he will not get up and give you the bread because of friendship, yet because of your shameless audacity^[a] he will surely get up and give you as much as you need.^(A)

¹⁶ He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. ¹⁷ And he will go on before the Lord,^(A) in the spirit and power of Elijah,^(B) to turn the hearts of the parents to their children^(C) and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”^(D)

⁵ “See, I will send the prophet Elijah^(A) to you before that great and dreadful day of the Lord comes.^{(B) 6} He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children,^(C) and the hearts of the children to their parents; or else I will come and strike^(D) the land with total destruction.”^(E)

¹⁷ Give ear, Lord, and hear;^(A) open your eyes, Lord, and see;^(B) listen to all the words Sennacherib^(C) has sent to ridicule^(D) the living God.^(E)

¹⁸ “It is true, Lord, that the Assyrian kings have laid waste all these peoples and their lands.^{(F) 19} They have thrown their gods into the fire^(G) and destroyed them,^(H) for they were not gods^(I) but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands.^{(J) 20} Now, Lord our God, deliver^(K) us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth^(L) may know that you, Lord, are the only God.^[a](M)”
