⁴ You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens^(A) to supply you with food there.”

⁹ “Go at once to Zarephath^(A) in the region of Sidon and stay there. I have directed a widow^(B) there to supply you with food.”

⁴ Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’^[a]”^(A)

⁵ Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep.^(A)

All at once an angel^(B) touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” ⁶ He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.

⁷ The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” ⁸ So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty^(C) days and forty nights until he reached Horeb,^(D) the mountain of God.

¹¹ Then the devil left him,^(A) and angels came and attended him.^(B)
