A Man of God Confronts Jeroboam

13 And behold, ^(A)a man of God came out of Judah by the word of the Lord to Bethel. Jeroboam was standing by the altar ^(B)to make offerings.

¹⁷ Then he said, “What is that monument that I see?” And the men of the city told him, ^(A)“It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and predicted^[a] these things that you have done against the altar at Bethel.”

³² And Jeroboam appointed a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month like ^(A)the feast that was in Judah, and he offered sacrifices on the altar. So he did in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he made. And he placed in Bethel ^(B)the priests of the high places that he had made. ³³ He went up to the altar that he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, in the month that he had devised from his own heart. And he instituted a feast for the people of Israel and went up to the altar ^(C)to make offerings.

¹⁵ For this we declare to you ^(A)by a word from the Lord,^[a] that ^(B)we who are alive, who are left until ^(C)the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.

³ “For twenty-three years, ^(A)from the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, to this day, the word of the Lord has come to me, and I have spoken ^(B)persistently to you, ^(C)but you have not listened.

²⁹ The Chaldeans who are fighting against this city ^(A)shall come and set this city on fire and burn it, ^(B)with the houses on whose roofs offerings have been made to Baal ^(C)and drink offerings have been poured out to other gods, ^(D)to provoke me to anger.

¹² Then the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem ^(A)will go and cry to the gods to whom they make offerings, ^(B)but they cannot save them in the time of their trouble.

¹⁸ and they withstood King Uzziah and said to him, ^(A)“It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the Lord, ^(B)but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary, for you have done wrong, and it will bring you no honor from the Lord God.”

^29 (A)Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, from ^(B)first to last, are they not written in the history of ^(C)Nathan the prophet, and in the prophecy of ^(D)Ahijah the Shilonite, and in the visions of ^(E)Iddo ^(F)the seer concerning Jeroboam the son of Nebat?
