²⁶ And Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom will turn back to the house of David.

¹⁶ saying, ^(A)“What shall we do with these men? For that ^(B)a notable sign has been performed through them is evident to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. ¹⁷ But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them ^(C)to speak no more to anyone in this name.”

¹⁹ So the Pharisees said to one another, ^(A)“You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, ^(B)the world has gone after him.”

^10 (A)So the chief priests made plans to put Lazarus to death as well, ¹¹ because ^(B)on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.

⁴⁷ So the chief priests and the Pharisees ^(A)gathered ^(B)the council and said, ^(C)“What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. ⁴⁸ If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and ^(D)the Romans will come and take away both our ^(E)place and our nation.” ⁴⁹ But one of them, ^(F)Caiaphas, ^(G)who was high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all. ⁵⁰ Nor do you understand that ^(H)it is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.”

³⁹ Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If ^(A)this man were ^(B)a prophet, he ^(C)would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner.”

⁶ Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, ⁷ “Why does this man speak like that? ^(A)He is blaspheming! ^(B)Who can forgive sins but God alone?” ⁸ And immediately Jesus, ^(C)perceiving in his spirit that they thus questioned within themselves, said to them, “Why do you question these things in your hearts?

¹⁸ But if you do not surrender to ^(A)the officials of the king of Babylon, ^(B)then this city shall be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, ^(C)and they shall burn it with fire, and you shall not escape from their hand.” ¹⁹ King Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “I am afraid of the Judeans ^(D)who have deserted to the Chaldeans, lest I be handed over to them and they deal cruelly with me.” ²⁰ Jeremiah said, “You shall not be given to them. Obey now the voice of the Lord in what I say to you, ^(E)and it shall be well with you, and your life shall be spared. ²¹ But if you refuse to ^(F)surrender, this is the vision which the Lord has shown to me:
