²² For the king had ^(A)a fleet of ships of Tarshish at sea with the fleet of Hiram. Once every three years the fleet of ships of Tarshish used to come bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks.^[a]

⁴⁸ Jehoshaphat made ^(A)ships of Tarshish to go to ^(B)Ophir for gold, but they did not go, for the ships were wrecked at ^(C)Ezion-geber.

³⁶ He joined him in building ships to go to ^(A)Tarshish, and they built the ships in Ezion-geber. ³⁷ Then Eliezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, ^(B)“Because you have joined with Ahaziah, the Lord will destroy what you have made.” And the ships were wrecked and were not able to go to Tarshish.

⁴ The sons of Javan: Elishah, ^(A)Tarshish, ^(B)Kittim, and Dodanim.

³ But Jonah ^(A)rose to flee to ^(B)Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to ^(C)Joppa and found a ship going to ^(D)Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to ^(E)Tarshish, ^(F)away from the presence of the Lord.
