3 ¶ Mirad cuál caridad nos ha dado el Padre, que seamos llamados hijos de Dios; por esto el mundo no nos conoce, porque no le conoce a él.
2 Muy amados, ahora somos hijos de Dios, y aun no es manifestado lo que hemos de ser; pero sabemos que si él apareciere, seremos semejantes a él, porque le veremos como él es.
3 Y cualquiera que tiene esta esperanza en él, se purifica, como él también es limpio.

3 Mirad cuál amor nos ha dado el Padre, para que seamos llamados hijos de Dios;(A) por esto el mundo no nos conoce, porque no le conoció a él. 2 Amados, ahora somos hijos de Dios, y aún no se ha manifestado lo que hemos de ser; pero sabemos que cuando él se manifieste, seremos semejantes a él, porque le veremos tal como él es. 3 Y todo aquel que tiene esta esperanza en él, se purifica a sí mismo, así como él es puro.

3 See what great love(A) the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!(B) And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.(C) 2 Dear friends,(D) now we are children of God,(E) and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears,[a](F) we shall be like him,(G) for we shall see him as he is.(H) 3 All who have this hope in him purify themselves,(I) just as he is pure.(J)
