4 AMADOS, no creáis á todo espíritu, sino probad los espíritus si son de Dios; porque muchos falsos profetas son salidos en el mundo.
2 En esto conoced el Espíritu de Dios: todo espíritu que confiesa que Jesucristo es venido en carne es de Dios:
3 Y todo espíritu que no confiesa que Jesucristo es venido en carne, no es de Dios: y éste es el espíritu del anticristo, del cual vosotros habéis oído que ha de venir, y que ahora ya está en el mundo.
4 Hijitos, vosotros sois de Dios, y los habéis vencido; porque el que en vosotros está, es mayor que el que está en el mundo.
5 Ellos son del mundo; por eso hablan del mundo, y el mundo los oye.
6 Nosotros somos de Dios: el que conoce á Dios, nos oye: el que no es de Dios, no nos oye. Por esto conocemos el espíritu de verdad y el espíritu de error.
7 Carísimos, amémonos unos á otros; porque el amor es de Dios. Cualquiera que ama, es nacido de Dios, y conoce á Dios.
8 El que no ama, no conoce á Dios; porque Dios es amor.
9 En esto se mostró el amor de Dios para con nosotros, en que Dios envió á su Hijo unigénito al mundo, para que vivamos por él.
10 En esto consiste el amor: no que nosotros hayamos amado á Dios, sino que él nos amó á nosotros, y ha enviado á su Hijo en propiciación por nuestros pecados.
11 Amados, si Dios así nos ha amado, debemos también nosotros amarnos unos á otros.
12 Ninguno vió jamás á Dios. Si nos amamos unos á otros, Dios está en nosotros, y su amor es perfecto en nosotros:
13 En esto conocemos que estamos en él, y él en nosotros, en que nos ha dado de su Espíritu.
14 Y nosotros hemos visto y testificamos que el Padre ha enviado al Hijo para ser Salvador del mundo.
15 Cualquiera que confesare que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, Dios está en él, y él en Dios.
16 Y nosotros hemos conocido y creído el amor que Dios tiene para con nosotros. Dios es amor; y el que vive en amor, vive en Dios, y Dios en él.
17 En esto es perfecto el amor con nosotros, para que tengamos confianza en el día del juicio; pues como él es, así somos nosotros en este mundo.
18 En amor no hay temor; mas el perfecto amor echa fuera el temor: porque el temor tiene pena. De donde el que teme, no está perfecto en el amor.
19 Nosotros le amamos á él, porque él nos amó primero.
20 Si alguno dice, Yo amo á Dios, y aborrece á su hermano, es mentiroso. Porque el que no ama á su hermano al cual ha visto, ¿cómo puede amar á Dios á quien no ha visto?
21 Y nosotros tenemos este mandamiento de él: Que el que ama á Dios, ame también á su hermano.

Love for God and One Another
4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but (A)test the spirits, whether they are of God; because (B)many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: (C)Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess [a]that Jesus [b]Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than (D)he who is in the world. 5 (E)They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and (F)the world hears them. 6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. (G)By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
Knowing God Through Love(H)
7 (I)Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who (J)loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 (K)In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten (L)Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, (M)not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son (N)to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, (O)if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
Seeing God Through Love
12 (P)No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. 13 (Q)By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. 14 And (R)we have seen and testify that (S)the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. 15 (T)Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and (U)he who abides in love abides in God, and God (V)in him.
The Consummation of Love
17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that (W)we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 (X)We love [c]Him because He first loved us.
Obedience by Faith
20 (Y)If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, [d]how can he love God (Z)whom he has not seen? 21 And (AA)this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.

3 (C)а всеки дух, който не изповядва Спасителя[a], не е от Бога; и това е духът на Антихриста, за когото сте чули, че идва, и сега е вече в света.
4 (D)Вие сте от Бога, дечица, и сте ги победили; защото Този, Който е във вас, е по-велик от онзи, който е в света.

Извор на любовта
7 (G)Възлюбени, да се обичаме един друг, защото любовта е от Бога; и всеки, който обича, е роден от Бога и познава Бога.
8 (H)Който не обича, не е познал Бога; защото Бог е любов.
9 (I)В това се яви Божията любов към нас, че Бог изпрати на света Своя Единороден Син, за да живеем чрез Него.
10 (J)В това се състои любовта – не че ние сме възлюбили Бога, а че Той възлюби нас и прати Сина Си като умилостивение за греховете ни.
11 (K)Възлюбени, понеже Бог така ни е възлюбил, то и ние сме длъжни да се обичаме един друг.
12 (L)Никой никога не е видял Бога; но ако се обичаме един друг, Бог пребъдва в нас и Неговата любов е съвършена в нас.
13 (M)По това познаваме, че пребъдваме в Него и Той в нас, защото ни е дал от Духа Си.
14 (N)И ние видяхме и свидетелстваме, че Отец прати Своя Син да бъде Спасител на света.
15 (O)Който изповяда, че Исус е Божият Син, Бог пребъдва в него и той в Бога.
16 (P)И ние сме познали и сме повярвали в любовта, която Бог има към нас. Бог е любов; и който пребъдва в любовта, пребъдва в Бога и Бог – в него.
17 (Q)В това се усъвършенства любовта в нас, че имаме дръзновение в съдния ден, защото както е Той, така сме и ние в този свят.
18 (R)В любовта няма страх, а съвършената любов пропъжда страха; защото страхът предполага наказание и който се страхува, не е стигнал до съвършенство в любовта.
19 Ние обичаме Него, защото първо Той възлюби нас.
20 (S)Ако някой каже: Обичам Бога, а мрази брат си, той е лъжец; защото който не обича брат си, когото е видял, не може да обича Бога, Когото не е видял.
21 (T)И тази заповед имаме от Него: Който обича Бога, да обича и брат си.
