1 John 3:9-14

⁹ No one who is ^[a](A)born of God ^(B)practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is ^[b]born of God. ¹⁰ By this the ^(C)children of God and the ^(D)children of the devil are obvious: ^[c]anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who ^(E)does not love his ^(F)brother.

^11 (G)For this is the message ^(H)which you have heard from the beginning, ^(I)that we should love one another; ¹² not as ^(J)Cain, who was of ^(K)the evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because ^(L)his deeds were evil, and his brother’s were righteous.

¹³ Do not be surprised, brethren, if ^(M)the world hates you. ¹⁴ We know that we have ^(N)passed out of death into life, ^(O)because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.
