A descendência de Rúben
5 O filho mais velho de Israel foi Rúben, mas a partir do momento em que desonrou o pai, deitando-se com uma das mulheres dele, o seu direito de primogénito foi dado aos descendentes de José, filho de Israel. É por essa razão que a genealogia oficial não indica Rúben como filho mais velho. 2 José recebeu pois esse direito, contudo foi Judá que se tornou a tribo mais poderosa e influente em Israel; dela provém um príncipe. 3 Os filhos de Rúben, filho de Israel, foram:
Enoque, Palu, Hezrom e Carmi.
4 Os descendentes de Joel foram o seu filho
Semaías, o seu neto Gogue e o seu bisneto Semei.
5 O filho de Simei foi Mica;
o seu neto Reaías e o seu bisneto Baal.
6 O filho de Baal chamou-se Beera. Foi príncipe da tribo de Rúben e levado cativo pelo rei Tiglate-Pileser da Assíria.
7 Os seus parentes tornaram-se cabeças de famílias e foram incluídos nas genealogias oficiais: Jeiel, Zacarias, 8 Bela, filho de Azaz, neto de Sema e bisneto de Joel.
Estes rubenitas viveram em toda aquela área desde Aroer até junto do monte Nebo e de Baal-Meom. 9 Joel foi criador de gado, deixando os seus animais pastarem para as bandas do oriente, até ao limite do deserto, junto do rio Eufrates, porque havia muito gado na terra de Gileade.
10 Durante o tempo do rei Saul, os homens de Rúben derrotaram os hagarenos numa guerra e ocuparam as suas habitações até ao limite oriental de Gileade.
A descendência de Gad
11 Defronte deles, na terra de Basã, viviam os descendentes de Gad, que se estenderam até Salca.
12 Joel foi o maior, seguido de Safã e também de Janai e de Safate, que estavam em Basã.
13 Os seus irmãos, cabeças de sete famílias, foram
Micael, Mesulão, Seba, Jorai, Jacã, Zia e Eber.
14 Os descendentes de Buz, na ordem das suas gerações, foram: Jado, Jesisai, Micael, Gileade, Jaroa, Huri e Abiail.
15 Aí, filho de Abdiel e neto de Guni, foi o líder da família.
16 Esse clã viveu em Gileade, na terra de Basã e nas suas vizinhanças, ocupando toda a região de pastagens de Sarom, até aos seus limites.
17 Todos foram incluídos na genealogia oficial, no tempo do rei Jotão de Judá e de Jeroboão, rei de Israel.
18 O exército formado pelas tropas de Rúben e de Gad e da meia tribo de Manassés era constituído por 44 760 homens armados, bem treinados e corajosos. 19 Declararam guerra aos hagarenos, assim como aos homens de Jetur, de Nafis e de Nodabe. 20 Clamaram a Deus que os ajudasse e Deus respondeu-lhes, porque confiaram nele. Por essa razão, foram derrotados os hagarenos e todos os seus aliados. 21 Ao todo, isso rendeu-lhes 50 000 camelos, 250 000 ovelhas, 2000 burros e 100 000 prisioneiros. 22 Um grande número dos inimigos morreu em combate, porque Deus combatera por eles. Dessa forma, os rubenitas passaram a habitar nesse território dos hagarenos, até ao tempo em que foram levados para o exílio.
A meia tribo de Manassés
23 A meia tribo de Manassés espalhou-se pela terra de Basã até Baal-Hermon, Senir e ao monte Hermon. Era também muito numerosa.
24 Os líderes dos seus clãs foram os seguintes: Efer, Isi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremias, Hodavias e Jadiel. Cada um destes homens tinha grande reputação como guerreiro e como líder. 25 Mas não foram fiéis ao Deus dos seus antepassados, pois prestaram culto aos ídolos dos povos que Deus tinha destruído. 26 Essa foi a razão por que o Deus de Israel fez com que o rei Pul da Assíria, também conhecido como Tiglate-Pileser III, invadisse a sua terra e deportasse os homens de Rúben, de Gad e da meia tribo de Manassés. Levaram-nos para Hala, Habor, Hara e para o rio Gozã, onde ficaram até hoje.

Reuben
5 The sons of Reuben(A) the firstborn of Israel (he was the firstborn, but when he defiled his father’s marriage bed,(B) his rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph(C) son of Israel;(D) so he could not be listed in the genealogical record in accordance with his birthright,(E) 2 and though Judah(F) was the strongest of his brothers and a ruler(G) came from him, the rights of the firstborn(H) belonged to Joseph)— 3 the sons of Reuben(I) the firstborn of Israel:
Hanok, Pallu,(J) Hezron(K) and Karmi.
4 The descendants of Joel:
Shemaiah his son, Gog his son,
Shimei his son, 5 Micah his son,
Reaiah his son, Baal his son,
6 and Beerah his son, whom Tiglath-Pileser[a](L) king of Assyria took into exile. Beerah was a leader of the Reubenites.
7 Their relatives by clans,(M) listed according to their genealogical records:
Jeiel the chief, Zechariah, 8 and Bela son of Azaz, the son of Shema, the son of Joel. They settled in the area from Aroer(N) to Nebo(O) and Baal Meon.(P) 9 To the east they occupied the land up to the edge of the desert that extends to the Euphrates(Q) River, because their livestock had increased in Gilead.(R)
10 During Saul’s reign they waged war against the Hagrites(S), who were defeated at their hands; they occupied the dwellings of the Hagrites throughout the entire region east of Gilead.
Gad
11 The Gadites(T) lived next to them in Bashan, as far as Salekah:(U)
12 Joel was the chief, Shapham the second, then Janai and Shaphat, in Bashan.
13 Their relatives, by families, were:
Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jakan, Zia and Eber—seven in all.
14 These were the sons of Abihail son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz.
15 Ahi son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, was head of their family.
16 The Gadites lived in Gilead, in Bashan and its outlying villages, and on all the pasturelands of Sharon as far as they extended.
17 All these were entered in the genealogical records during the reigns of Jotham(V) king of Judah and Jeroboam(W) king of Israel.
18 The Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh had 44,760 men ready for military service(X)—able-bodied men who could handle shield and sword, who could use a bow, and who were trained for battle. 19 They waged war against the Hagrites, Jetur,(Y) Naphish and Nodab. 20 They were helped(Z) in fighting them, and God delivered the Hagrites and all their allies into their hands, because they cried(AA) out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted(AB) in him. 21 They seized the livestock of the Hagrites—fifty thousand camels, two hundred fifty thousand sheep and two thousand donkeys. They also took one hundred thousand people captive, 22 and many others fell slain, because the battle(AC) was God’s. And they occupied the land until the exile.(AD)
The Half-Tribe of Manasseh
23 The people of the half-tribe of Manasseh(AE) were numerous; they settled in the land from Bashan to Baal Hermon, that is, to Senir (Mount Hermon).(AF)
24 These were the heads of their families: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah and Jahdiel. They were brave warriors, famous men, and heads of their families. 25 But they were unfaithful(AG) to the God of their ancestors and prostituted(AH) themselves to the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. 26 So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit(AI) of Pul(AJ) king of Assyria (that is, Tiglath-Pileser(AK) king of Assyria), who took the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile. He took them to Halah,(AL) Habor, Hara and the river of Gozan, where they are to this day.
