La preeminencia del amor
13 Si yo hablara lenguas humanas y angélicas, y no tengo amor, vengo a ser como metal resonante, o címbalo retumbante. 2 Y si tuviera el don de profecía, y entendiera todos los misterios, y tuviera todo el conocimiento, y si tuviera toda la fe, de tal manera que trasladara los montes,(A) y no tengo amor, nada soy. 3 Y si repartiera todos mis bienes para dar de comer a los pobres, y entregara mi cuerpo para ser quemado, y no tengo amor, de nada me sirve.
4 El amor es paciente y bondadoso; no es envidioso ni jactancioso, no se envanece; 5 no hace nada impropio; no es egoísta ni se irrita; no es rencoroso; 6 no se alegra de la injusticia, sino que se une a la alegría de la verdad. 7 Todo lo sufre, todo lo cree, todo lo espera, todo lo soporta.
8 El amor jamás dejará de existir. En cambio, las profecías se acabarán, las lenguas dejarán de hablarse, y el conocimiento llegará a su fin. 9 Y es que sólo conocemos y profetizamos de manera imperfecta, 10 pero cuando venga lo perfecto, lo que es imperfecto se acabará. 11 Cuando yo era niño, mi manera de hablar y de pensar y razonar era la de un niño; pero cuando llegué a ser hombre, dejé atrás las cuestiones típicas de un niño. 12 Ahora vemos con opacidad, como a través de un espejo, pero en aquel día veremos cara a cara; ahora conozco en parte, pero en aquel día conoceré tal y como soy conocido. 13 Y ahora permanecen la fe, la esperanza y el amor. Pero el más importante de todos es el amor.

13 Om jag talade
både människors
och änglars språk
men inte hade kärlek,
vore jag endast
en ljudande malm
eller en skrällande cymbal.[a]
2 Och om jag ägde
profetisk gåva
och kände alla hemligheter
och hade all kunskap,
och om jag hade all tro
så att jag kunde flytta berg
men inte hade kärlek,
så vore jag ingenting.
3 Och om jag delade ut
allt vad jag ägde
och om jag offrade min kropp
till att brännas,[b]
men inte hade kärlek,
så skulle jag ingenting vinna.
4 Kärleken är tålig och mild,
kärleken avundas inte,
den skryter inte,
den är inte uppblåst,
5 den uppför sig inte illa,
den söker inte sitt,
den brusar inte upp,
den tillräknar inte det onda.
6 Den gläder sig inte
över orättfärdigheten
men har sin glädje i sanningen.
7 Den fördrar allting,
den tror allting,
den hoppas allting,
den uthärdar allting.
8 Kärleken upphör aldrig.
Men profetiorna skall upphöra
och tungomålstalen skall tystna
och kunskapen skall förgå.
9 Ty vi förstår till en del
och profeterar till en del,
10 men när det fullkomliga
kommer, skall det förgå
som är till en del.
11 När jag var barn,
talade jag som ett barn,
tänkte jag som ett barn,
och förstod jag som ett barn.
Men sedan jag blivit man,
har jag lagt bort det barnsliga.
12 Nu ser vi en gåtfull spegelbild,[c]
men då skall vi se
ansikte mot ansikte.
Nu förstår jag endast till en del,
men då skall jag känna fullkomligt,
liksom jag själv har blivit
fullkomligt känd.
13 Nu består tron, hoppet och
kärleken, dessa tre,
men störst av dem är kärleken.

13 If I speak in the tongues[a](A) of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy(B) and can fathom all mysteries(C) and all knowledge,(D) and if I have a faith(E) that can move mountains,(F) but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor(G) and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b](H) but do not have love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient,(I) love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.(J) 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,(K) it is not easily angered,(L) it keeps no record of wrongs.(M) 6 Love does not delight in evil(N) but rejoices with the truth.(O) 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.(P)
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies,(Q) they will cease; where there are tongues,(R) they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part(S) and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes,(T) what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood(U) behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror;(V) then we shall see face to face.(W) Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.(X)
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.(Y) But the greatest of these is love.(Z)

13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of (A)prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, (B)so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 And (C)though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body [a]to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
4 (D)Love suffers long and is (E)kind; love (F)does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not [b]puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, (G)does not seek its own, is not provoked, [c]thinks no evil; 6 (H)does not rejoice in iniquity, but (I)rejoices in the truth; 7 (J)bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 (K)For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is [d]perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For (L)now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then (M)face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.
13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
