12 [n]Wherefore, let him that thinketh he standeth, take heed lest he fall.

13 There hath no temptation taken you, but such as appertaineth to [o]man: and God is faithful, which will not suffer you to be tempted above that you be able, but will even [p]give the issue with the temptation, that ye may be able to bear it.

14 Wherefore my beloved, flee from idolatry.

15 [q]I speak as unto them which have understanding: judge ye what I say.

16 The cup of [r]blessing which we bless, is it not the [s]communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

17 For we that are many, are one bread and one body, because we all are partakers of one bread.

18 Behold Israel, which is after the [t]flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices [u]partakers of the Altar?

19 What say I then? that the idol is anything? or that that which is sacrificed to idols, is anything?

20 Nay, but that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not unto God: and I would not that ye should have [v]fellowship with the devils.

21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the [w]cup of the devils. Ye cannot be partakers of the Lord’s table, and of the table of the devils.

22 Do we provoke the Lord to anger? are we stronger than he?

23 (K)[x][y]All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth.

25 [z]Whatsoever is sold in the [aa]shambles, eat ye, and ask no question for conscience sake.

29 And the conscience, I say, not thine, but of that other: [ac]for why should my liberty be condemned of another man’s conscience?

30 For if I through God’s [ad]benefit be partaker, why am I evil spoken of, for that wherefore I give thanks?

Az úrvacsora és a bálványáldozat

14 Ezért, szeretteim, kerüljétek a bálványimádást!

15 Úgy beszélek hozzátok, mint értelmes emberekhez: ítéljétek meg magatok, amit mondok.

16 Az áldás pohara, amelyet megáldunk, nem a Krisztus vérével való közösségünk-e? A kenyér, amelyet megtörünk, nem a Krisztus testével való közösségünk-e?

17 Mert egy a kenyér, egy test vagyunk mindannyian, akik az egy kenyérből részesedünk.

18 Nézzétek a test szerinti Izráelt! Akik az áldozatokat eszik, nincsenek-e közösségben az oltárral?

19 De mit mondok ezzel? Talán azt, hogy a bálványáldozat vagy a bálvány ér valamit?

20 Sőt inkább azt, hogy amit a pogányok áldoznak, azt ördögöknek áldozzák és nem Istennek: azt pedig nem szeretném, ha ti az ördögökkel lennétek közösségben.

21 Nem ihattok az Úr poharából is, meg az ördögök poharából is, nem lehettek részesei az Úr asztalának is, meg az ördögök asztalának is.

22 Vagy haragra ingereljük az Urat? Talán erősebbek vagyunk nála?

10 No quiero, hermanos, que olviden que nuestros antepasados estuvieron todos bajo aquella nube, y que todos atravesaron el Mar Rojo. De ese modo, todos ellos quedaron unidos a Moisés al ser bautizados en la nube y en el mar. Igualmente, todos ellos comieron el mismo alimento espiritual y tomaron la misma bebida espiritual. Porque bebían agua de la roca espiritual que los acompañaba en su viaje, la cual era Cristo. Sin embargo, la mayoría de ellos no agradó a Dios, y por eso sus cuerpos quedaron tendidos en el desierto.

Todo esto sucedió como un ejemplo para nosotros, para que no deseemos lo malo, como ellos lo desearon. Por eso, no adoren ustedes ídolos, como algunos de ellos lo hicieron, según dice la Escritura: «La gente se sentó a comer y beber, y luego se levantó a divertirse.» No nos entreguemos a la prostitución, como lo hicieron algunos de ellos, por lo que en un solo día murieron veintitrés mil. Tampoco pongamos a prueba a Cristo, como algunos de ellos lo hicieron, por lo que murieron mordidos por las serpientes. 10 Ni murmuren contra Dios, como algunos de ellos murmuraron, por lo que el ángel de la muerte los mató.

La solidaridad que se establece en la comida ritual

14 Por eso, mis queridos hermanos, huyan de la idolatría. 15 Les hablo como a personas entendidas: juzguen ustedes mismos lo que les digo. 16 Cuando bebemos de la copa bendita por la cual bendecimos a Dios, participamos en común de la sangre de Cristo; cuando comemos del pan que partimos, participamos en común del cuerpo de Cristo. 17 Aunque somos muchos, todos comemos de un mismo pan, y por esto somos un solo cuerpo.

18 Fíjense en el pueblo de Israel: los que comen de los animales ofrecidos en sacrificio, participan en común del servicio en el altar. 19 Con esto no quiero decir que el ídolo tenga valor alguno, ni que la carne ofrecida al ídolo sea algo más que otra carne cualquiera. 20 Lo que digo es que cuando los paganos ofrecen algo en sacrificio, se lo ofrecen a los demonios, y no a Dios, y yo no quiero que ustedes tengan nada en común con los demonios. 21 No pueden beber de la copa del Señor y, a la vez, de la copa de los demonios; ni pueden participar de la mesa del Señor y, a la vez, de la mesa de los demonios.

22 ¿O acaso queremos poner celoso al Señor? ¿Somos acaso más fuertes que él?

El respeto a la conciencia del prójimo

23 Se dice: «Uno es libre de hacer lo que quiera.» Es cierto, pero no todo conviene. Sí, uno es libre de hacer lo que quiera, pero no todo edifica la comunidad. 24 No hay que buscar el bien de uno mismo, sino el bien de los demás.

25 Coman ustedes de todo lo que se vende en la carnicería, sin preguntar nada por motivos de conciencia; 26 porque el mundo entero, con todo lo que hay en él, es del Señor.

27 Si uno que no es creyente los invita a comer, y ustedes quieren ir, coman de todo lo que les sirvan, sin preguntar nada por motivos de conciencia. 28 Ahora bien, si alguien les dice: «Esta carne fue ofrecida en sacrificio», entonces no la coman, en atención al que lo dijo y por motivos de conciencia. 29 Estoy hablando de la conciencia del otro, no de la de ustedes.

Yo no debo hacer que mi libertad sea mal juzgada por la conciencia de otra persona. 30 Si doy gracias a Dios por lo que como, no debo hacer que se hable mal de lo que para mí es motivo de dar gracias a Dios. 31 En todo caso, lo mismo si comen, que si beben, que si hacen cualquier otra cosa, háganlo todo para la gloria de Dios. 32 No den mal ejemplo a nadie; ni a los judíos, ni a los no judíos, ni a los que pertenecen a la iglesia de Dios. 33 Yo, por mi parte, procuro agradar a todos en todo, sin buscar mi propio bien sino el de los demás, para que alcancen la salvación.
