¹¹ But if she does, she must remain unmarried or else be reconciled to her husband.^(A) And a husband must not divorce his wife.

¹⁰ To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband.^(A)

Israel’s Sin and the Servant’s Obedience

50 This is what the Lord says:

² But she was unfaithful to him. She left him and went back to her parents’ home in Bethlehem, Judah. After she had been there four months, ³ her husband went to her to persuade her to return. He had with him his servant and two donkeys. She took him into her parents’ home, and when her father saw him, he gladly welcomed him.

¹⁹ They shall fine him a hundred shekels^[a] of silver and give them to the young woman’s father, because this man has given an Israelite virgin a bad name. She shall continue to be his wife; he must not divorce her as long as he lives.

² Some Pharisees^(A) came and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”
