⁴⁵ Thus it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit.^(A)

²¹ Indeed, just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whomever he wishes.^(A)

² For the law of the Spirit^[a] of life in Christ Jesus has set you^[b] free from the law of sin and of death.^(A)

⁷ then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground^[a] and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.^(A)

⁶ Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.^(A)

The Word of Life

1 We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life^(A)— ² this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us^(B)— ³ what we have seen and heard we also declare to you so that you also may have fellowship with us, and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.^(C)

¹⁰ But if Christ is in you, then the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit^[a] is life because of righteousness. ¹¹ If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus^[b] from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through^[c] his Spirit that dwells in you.^(A)

Adam and Christ

¹² Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death came through sin, and so death spread to all because all have sinned^(A)— ¹³ for sin was indeed in the world before the law, but sin is not reckoned when there is no law. ¹⁴ Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who did not sin in the likeness of Adam, who is a pattern of the one who was to come.^(B)

⁶³ It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

⁵⁷ Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me.
