²⁴ and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for^[a] you. Do this in remembrance of me.”^[b]

⁵³ So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of ^(A)the Son of Man and drink his blood, you ^(B)have no life in you. ⁵⁴ Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood ^(C)has eternal life, and ^(D)I will raise him up on the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. ⁵⁶ Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood ^(E)abides in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As ^(F)the living Father ^(G)sent me, and ^(H)I live because of the Father, so whoever feeds on me, he also will live because of me. ^58 (I)This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like the bread^[a] the fathers ate, and died. Whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

^27 (A)Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord ^(B)in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning ^(C)the body and blood of the Lord. ^28 (D)Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

³ and ^(A)all ate the same ^(B)spiritual food, ⁴ and ^(C)all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.

^16 (A)The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? ^(B)The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? ¹⁷ Because there is one bread, we who are many are ^(C)one body, for we all partake of the one bread.

The Compassion of the Lord

¹⁴ “This day shall be ^(A)for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations, as a ^(B)statute forever, you shall keep it as a feast.
