Correcting an Abuse of the Lord’s Supper^(A)

¹⁷ In the following directives I have no praise for you,^(B) for your meetings do more harm than good.

¹⁴ or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong^(A) and to commend those who do right.^(B)

²⁵ not giving up meeting together,^(A) as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another^(B)—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.^(C)

²³ So if the whole church comes together and everyone speaks in tongues, and inquirers or unbelievers come in, will they not say that you are out of your mind?^(A)

²² Don’t you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God^(A) by humiliating those who have nothing?^(B) What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you?^(C) Certainly not in this matter!

On Covering the Head in Worship

² I praise you^(A) for remembering me in everything^(B) and for holding to the traditions just as I passed them on to you.^(C)

⁹ “‘Will you steal^(A) and murder,^(B) commit adultery^(C) and perjury,^[a](D) burn incense to Baal^(E) and follow other gods^(F) you have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand^(G) before me in this house,^(H) which bears my Name, and say, “We are safe”—safe to do all these detestable things?^(I)

True Fasting

¹⁷ “‘Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart.^(A) Rebuke your neighbor frankly^(B) so you will not share in their guilt.
