²⁷ But God chose^(A) the foolish^(B) things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

⁵ Listen, my dear brothers and sisters:^(A) Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world^(B) to be rich in faith^(C) and to inherit the kingdom^(D) he promised those who love him?^(E)

The Father Revealed in the Son^(A)

²⁵ At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father,^(B) Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.^(C)

²⁰ Where is the wise person?^(A) Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age?^(B) Has not God made foolish^(C) the wisdom of the world?

¹¹ Jesus is

¹² Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”^(B)

¹³ When they saw the courage of Peter and John^(C) and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men,^(D) they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.^{(E) 14} But since they could see the man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say. ¹⁵ So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin^(F) and then conferred together. ¹⁶ “What are we going to do with these men?”^(G) they asked. “Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign,^(H) and we cannot deny it. ¹⁷ But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.”

¹⁸ Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.^{(I) 19} But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him?^(J) You be the judges! ²⁰ As for us, we cannot help speaking^(K) about what we have seen and heard.”^(L)

²¹ After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people^(M) were praising God^(N) for what had happened.

⁴ The weapons we fight with^(A) are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power^(B) to demolish strongholds.^{(C) 5} We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God,^(D) and we take captive every thought to make it obedient^(E) to Christ.

¹⁵ For I will give you^(A) words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.
